Blaze Bailey


Blaze Bayley é um vocalista de Heavy Metal, chegando ao posto de vocalista dos Iron Maiden.
Blaze era um vocalista praticamente desconhecido da banda Wolfsbane. Banda que nunca chegou a sair do underground, mesmo tendo lançado o "Live Fast, Die Fast", considerado um álbum impressionante pela crítica. Ele entrou para o Iron Maiden assim que Bruce Dickinson saiu e mesmo sendo novato, o grupo parecia mais entrosado e único do que nunca, e em 1995 sai o brilhante The X Factor, um álbum extremamente raivoso, devido a fase que Steve tinha passado. Blaze atingiu admiráveis performances vocais, como em Sign of the Cross, Lord of the Flies, Fortunes of War e Blood on the World's Hands. Mas por incrível que pareça, a recepção a ele não foi das melhores, do CD então, muito menos. Logo em seguida eles começaram a turnê, onde Harris tocava toda canção com uma garra e vontade invejável, assim como toda a banda. A prova disso é o legendário concerto do Chile, onde cospem no rosto dele, deixando-o furioso. Por sorte, ele acabou sendo retirado do concerto e não ocorreu mais nenhum problema. A banda tocou no Brasil, participando do festival Monsters of Rock. Em 1998, se iniciaram as gravações do sucessor do "X-Factor", Virtual XI, com temas futuristas e dedicados a Copa do Mundo (na copa o garoto vê a final entre Brasil e Inglaterra). Com um maior astral, o CD mostrou grandes clássicos , como Futureal e The Clansman. Mas a recepção ao CD foram impressionantemente negativas. O boato que a banda estava para acabar só ia aumentando. Mas o pior aconteceu no Brasil. No concerto da banda no Rio de Janeiro, um fã revoltado qualquer atirou um sapato no Janick Gers, que ficou furioso e graças ao Steve, não desceu do palco para arrumar confusão. Foi o único concerto de toda carreira da banda em que saíram sem tocar o "bis", alegando o calor excessivo do lugar, mas tava evidente que o motivo foi o Janick ter recebido uma sapatada. Em 1999, a Rock Brigade anuncia a sua saída para a volta de Adrian Smith e Bruce Dickinson, fato que logo em seguida seria confirmado. A banda em seguida lançou o maravilhoso Brave New World, que obteve uma ótima repercursão e de quebra a banda participou do Rock in Rio 3, de onde lançou o seu 1º DVD, visto que o Raising Hell não foi lançado através da banda.

Logo após a saída da banda, Blaze deu um tempo para pensar em tudo e só então seguir em carreira solo. Foi coagitada sua volta ao Wolfsbane, que logo descartou de cara. Ele realizou um concurso para ver quem seria os novos membros da banda. Foram mandadas fitas de toda a região do mundo, mas ele optou por músicos britânicos de extrema competência, que segundo em entrevista à Rock Brigade, isso se deve a uma questão de cultura, pois sem sombra de dúvidas, a Inglaterra é país do Heavy Metal. E em maio, saiu o primeiro trabalho solo da banda, intitulada Blaze, Silicon Messiah. O CD fala principalmente da inteligência artificial e sobre o mundo do silício. Parece tudo perfeito, guitarras pesadas, bateria direta, baixo de primeira linha e Blaze cantando admiravelmente bem. Alguns críticos chegaram a eleger como um clássico de todo o Heavy Metal (o que dependendo do ponto de vista não é exagero) Destaque para as canções Stare at the Sun, The Launch, Ghost in the Machine, Born as Stranger e The Brave.A primeira formação tinha Blaze nos vocais,John Slater e Steve Wray nas guitarras,Rob Naylor no baixo e Jeff Singer na bateria.

Em 2002 Blaze lançou seu segundo álbum, intitulado Tenth Dimension, que tenta nos mostrar o verdadeiro mundo em que vivemos. Neste álbum temos mais clássicos como Stranger to the Light, Speed of light, a faixa título e a música mais cantada da banda, o "hit" Kill And Destroy.

Após grande sucesso na Europa, Blaze decidiu gravar seu 1º álbum ao vivo, intitulado As live as it gets, com os clássicos já citados acima e algumas músicas da era Iron Maiden Blaze, como Sign Of The Cross, Futureal e Vírus.

Em meados de 2003 o baterista Jeff Singer que não se dava muito bem com Blaze sai da banda,logo depois o baixista Rob Naylor também sai alegando não ter se entrosado bem com o outro baterista que entrou (outro fator da saída do baixista é que ele queria fazer sua própria banda)que no caso foi Dave Knight e no baixo entrou Wayne Banks.


Logo depois em meados de 2004 foi lançado o álbum Blood & Belief, com destaque para as músicas Ten Seconds,Alive e Hollow Head.Quem gravou o album foi Blaze nos Blaze nos vocais,John Slater e Steve Wray nas guitarras,Wayne Banks no baixo e Dave Knight na bateria.

Em junho de 2004,Blaze é convidado para participar de um show especial da banda The Clairvoyants que é uma banda italiana cover do Iron Maiden.

O ano de 2004 foi muito dificil para Blaze pois a formação da banda mudou muito,em setembro depois de alguns shows para promoção do album Blood and Belief,todos os membros saem da banda,Steve e John alegam que vão fazer sua própria banda,Wayne e Dave dizem que tem outros projetos até o fim do ano e com isso estão sem tempo de se dedicar a banda.O baixista Nick Douglas (Doro),os guitarristas Oliver Palotai (Uli Jon Roth) e Luca Princiotta (The Clairvoyants) e o baterista Daniel Loeble(RAWHEAD REXX)são contratados para fazerem os shows até o fim do ano.


No ínicio de 2005,é anunciada a nova formação da banda que ainda tinha com os guitarristas Oliver Palotai e Luca Princiotta além dos recém contratados:o baixista Christian Ammann e o baterista Daniel Schild,a partir dai começam a preparar um novo album.


Durante o ano de 2005,a banda passou por situações difíceis, financeiras, empresariais e de organização.Durante 2006 as coisas começaram a melhorar, após trabalharmos juntos em todos os aspectos.Mas mesmo assim continuou fazendo shows durante todo o ano.

No fim de 2005 é anunciado um dvd que seria gravado em dezembro em Dudley no Big Bash, mas infelizmente esse video foi cancelado.

Mas Infelizmente no fim de 2006 após muitas brigas internas Blaze rompe com todos os outros membros alegando que eles queriam roubar para si as novas músicas que seriam do novo album,Blaze alegou que eles compuseram as músicas todos juntos e não era justo só uma ou duas pessoas ficarem com todo crédito,sendo assim Blaze contratou um novo empresário,esse fato levou os memrbos a saírem da banda,alegando ter idéias diferentes desse novo empresário,o único regristo inédito dessa formação foi a música "Sin By Sin" que foi tocada uma vez num programa de tv.

Blaze Bayley (born Bayley Alexander Cook, 29 May 1963, Birmingham, England) is anEnglish heavy metal singer and songwriter. He is currently the lead vocalist of his self-titled band, Blaze Bayley, who formed 1999. The band has released 4 studio albums (3 of them under the original band name of simply "Blaze") and 1 live album, their latest being The Man Who Would Not Die. He was also the lead singer of Wolfsbane from 1984 to 1994 and Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999. On 14 February 2007, Bayley married Debbie Hartland, his long-time girlfriend, on the island of Gran Canaria. On 6 July 2008, Hartland suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was hospitalized. She died on 27 September 2008, after having suffered a stroke two days before.

Career

Wolfsbane and Iron Maiden (1984-1999)

Blaze Bayley started his musical career as the lead vocalist of Tamworth heavy metal/hard rock band Wolfsbane, upon their formation in 1984. When Bruce Dickinson departed fellow English heavy metal band Iron Maiden in 1993, Bayley was chosen as his replacement in 1994 after hundreds of auditions. His depature of Wolfsbane lead to their disbandment later on that year. After a bad motorcycle accident caused by losing control and clipping his knee on a catseye in the road, which put him out of action for a year, his first album with Maiden was The X Factor, released in 1995. Bayley went on to tour with the band in support of the album. Still being Iron Maiden's vocalist, the album Virtual XIwas released in 1998.

The two Iron Maiden albums released during Bayley's time in the band did not chart as well as that to which the band were accustomed. The X Factor peaked at #8 on the UK Albums Chart and Virtual XI hit only #16, both being the lowest charting Maiden studio albums since Killerswas released in 1981, which peaked at #12. Some of this comparative commercial failure could be attributed to fans disliking Blaze's singing style and tours being cut short due to Bayley's frequent sickness.

In February 1999, when Iron Maiden announced that vocalist Bruce Dickinson was returning to the band, Bayley departed by mutual consent, and has no hard feelings with Iron Maiden and they frequentelly meet up and socialize. The band occasionally performs songs from the two Maiden albums featuring Bayley until 2003, including "Man on the Edge" and "Futureal", both of which he co-wrote. Likewise, Bayley has performed Iron Maiden songs originally recorded by the Dickinson and Paul Di'Anno led line-ups at some concerts.

In 2007, Wolfsbane reformed for a one-off performance, with Bayley again taking up vocal and frontman duties. They supported The Wildheartson a short UK tour in December 2007.

Solo career (1999-present)

Following Blaze Bayley's departure from Iron Maiden in 1999, he formed his own solo band, Blaze, in March that year. Bayley recruited guitarist Steve Wray, guitarist John Slater, bassist Rob Naylor, and drummer Jeff Singer, and signed a deal with German label SPV, releasing the band's debut studio album in 2000, Silicon Messiah. The album was followed up by Tenth Dimension in 2002 and the band's first live album in 2003, As Live As It Gets.

After recording the live album, Jeff Singer announced he was leaving the band. Three months later, Rob Naylor was also leaving. Session drummer Phil Greenhouse and bassist Wayne Banks were hired for the rest of the Tenth Dimension tour until permanent replacements could be found. Guitarist Jason Banks was drafted in for a few gigs at the end of 2003 to cover for John Slater.

At the end of 2003, Blaze began writing material for their third studio album, Blood & Belief. Phil Greenhouse was replaced on drums by Jason Bowld for recording and Dave Knight for touring. The band began to tour for the album shortly after it was released in 2004, but were set back again by the news that John Slater could not perform a large section of the tour. Despite rejoining the band later in the year, Slater eventually left the band in September with Steve Wray to form the band Rise To Addiction. Bassist Wayne Banks and drummer Dave Knight left the band to join the Robin Gibb band in September 2004.

Blaze performed a number of shows in 2004 and 2005 with the lineup of Bayley, guitarist Oliver Palotai, guitarist Luca Princiotta, bassist Nick Douglas, and drummer Daniel Löble. The two guitarists were eventually kept on as full members. The band's lineup shifted once again when Löble quit to join German power metal band Helloween early in 2005 and when Douglas returned to another German heavy metal band, Doro. The two were replaced by unknown German musicians Daniel Schild and Christian Ammann respectively. With the new line up, Blaze began to work on a fourth studio album for a release in 2007, but in January that year it was announced the entire line-up parted ways with Bayley. Following the lineup change, Bayley opted to rename the band under his name, Blaze Bayley.

In February 2007, Blaze Bayley added guitarists Nick Bermudez and Rich Newport, bassist Dave Bermudez, and drummer Rico Banderra to the band and recorded the live DVD album Alive in Poland, released later on that year. Bayley announced that Rich Newport had left the band to pursue a career as a guitar teacher later on that year, and Jay Walsh would replace him onstage for the remainder of the tour. Bayley also announced the addition of drummer Lawrence Paterson, formerly of British metal band Chokehold. In July 2008, Blaze Bayley released their fourth and latest studio album, The Man Who Would Not Die. The album also contained the band's first single, "Robot", despite only being available digitally. It is sometimes regarded as a mini-compilation as it includes many bonus tracks. Recently, the band recorded another DVD live at Z7, The Night That Will Not Die, which was released in March 2009.

Singing style

It has been claimed that one of the reasons for Bayley's lukewarm reception from Iron Maiden fans was that he possessed a vocal range lower than either of his predecessors. This made it difficult for him to perform certain songs in the key in which they were originally written and Iron Maiden was used to playing them. "Run to the Hills," one of Iron Maiden's most popular tracks, was omitted from live shows as a result of this. On his albums with Blaze, Bayley's voice was noted for its improvement, which could be due, in part, to having musicians who more closely fit his singing style and the absence of Bayley's former respiratory allergy that caused him trouble during live performances.

Blaze Bayley has a relatively low vocal range and is considered a Bass-Baritone (lower than that of Paul Dianno). In songs such as "Stare at the Sun", "Sign of The Cross", or "Hallowed Be Thy Name" live, his voice would cover the range from F at the bottom of the bass clef to A above middle C, but only infrequently descends beyond the C below middle C.

Note: Promotional videos were released for the Blood and Belief song "Hollow Head" and the Silicon Messiah song "Ghost in the Machine", but these were originally only made available to fan club members. Later on, the video for "Silicon Messiah" was put on to the second disc of a limited edition of Tenth Dimension along with an EPK titled Inside the Tenth Dimension.
