History
Early years (1994–1997)
The roots of Gob trace back to Theo Goutzinakis (guitar, vocals) and Tom Thacker (guitar, vocals) meeting at Brookswood Secondary School inLangley, British Columbia, Canada. With the addition of drummer Patrick Paszana, known to fans as "Wolfman Pat", and bassist Kelly Macauley, the band released its untitled, nine-track album in 1994.
Due to personal differences, Kelly was replaced by Jamie Fawkes and in 1995 Gob released Too Late... No Friends. The album was a major breakthrough and saw the band earn a large following due to their unique videos, constant touring and their frenetic live performances. Shortly after releasing their first album, Gob released another limited-edition Green Beans and Almonds 7-inch containing four songs.
After leaving the band mid-tour, due to having much better things to do, leaving Gob to play the remaining dates as a three-piece, Fawkes asked to leave and was temporarily replaced by Happy Kreter, a friend of the band, until a permanent replacement was found in Craig Wood. In 1997, a 7-inch Gob/The McRackins split release entitled Has Fil Flipped? was pressed, along with Ass Seen on TV, a Gob/Another Joe split release.
How Far Shallow Takes You and Wolfman Pat's departure (1998–1999)
As Gob begun work on their second album, Pat had a daughter and decided to leave the band to spend time with his family. Gabe Mantle (formerly of Vancouver hardcore band Brand New Unit) took over on drums, and the band recorded How Far Shallow Takes You. The album had a darker, more personal tone and had a heavier sound than Gob had produced in the past. The album sold well in Canada, and the band obtained a strong loyal fan-base. Singles from the album included "Beauville" and their first single, "What To Do". The video for "What To Do" was directed by Jason Priestly, and featured Terry David Mulligan.
Gob covered The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black", which was featured in the film, Stir of Echoes starring Kevin Bacon and can be heard in the 2004 miniseries Salem’s Lot.
Their song "Self-Appointed Leader", was also used in the wrestling documentary Hitman Hart: Wrestling with Shadows, and appears on the soundtrack released for that movie as well.
The World According to Gob and Foot in Mouth Disease (2000–2004)
The band released World According to Gob, in 2001. This album was Gob's most successful album to date. The sound took a slight departure from their early punk rock sound and displayed growth in their songwriting and in their musicianship. Singles released from WATG include "For The Moment", "I Hear You Calling", and "No Regrets".
In 2002, Gob recorded the F.U. EP. "Ming Tran" was released as a single for the EP which also featured a re-recorded version of a classic Gob song "Soda", 2 exclusive tracks, "L.A Song" and "Sick With You," as well as new tracks from the forthcoming full-length album Foot in Mouth Disease, which was released on Arista Records in April 2003. Singles from Foot in Mouth Disease include "Give Up the Grudge" and "Oh! Ellin".
Craig Wood's departure and Muertos Vivos (2004–2008)
In 2004, longtime bassist Wood left the band to play guitar for Canadian superstar Avril Lavigne. The band have since recruited a bassist known only to fans as "Peter Pan" or, more commonly, Tyson, as Gob's members are on a 'first-name basis' with their fans. (All albums credit the musicians simply by their first names, as well.)
Gob's friendship with several Canadian bands has come up often in the past few years. Cone of Sum 41 has filled in on bass for some Gob live shows since Craig Wood's departure. During Gob's downtime, Tom Thacker has played lead guitar for Sum 41 live since the departure of their lead guitarist, Dave Baksh, and since then has became Baksh's permanent replacement in Sum 41.
Their fifth full-length album, Muertos Vivos, was released on Cobraside November 27, 2007 in the U.S. and was released in Canada on Aquarius Records October 23. They recruited Tyson Maiko as their bassist. During their tour in 2008, they have shared the stage with Billy Talent, NOFX,The Loved Ones, Sickcity, Brown Sound, Sloan, State of Shock, Alexisonfire, Van Bran 3000, The Saint Catherines, Daniel Wesley, illScarlett,Theory of a Deadman, Puddle of Mudd, and 3 Doors Down.
The first single off the album was "We're All Dying", however the song "Prescription" is the first from the new album released on the band's MySpace. They shot the video for "We're All Dying", as well as their second single "Underground", on September 4 & 5, 2007, in downtown Vancouver. The final single off the album was "Banshee Song".
In late 2008, bassist Tyson Maiko left the band and was replaced by Steven Fairweather.
New album (2009–present)
In early 2009 the band toured Canada, after which, in April, Tom joined up with Sum 41 for their Japanese and US tour.
In an interview with AMP Magazine, guitarist Theo Goutzinakis has revealed that the band already started writing for their next album, which will be probably released in 2010. Tom has also revealed that he and Theo are currently in the studio, producing the first record by new Vancouveralternative rock band Floodlight.

- Gob's song "Give Up the Grudge" was featured on EA Sports' Madden NFL 2004.
- A Gob sticker is placed behind Steve Jocz (Sum 41) in the music video "Motivation" by Sum 41
- In an episode of Breaker High the character Jimmy is seen wearing Gob's toilet logo t-shirt which he claims to be his favourite.
