DIE KRUPPS - 25+ Years Of
Metall Maschinen Musik

Critics worldwide hail them alongside KRAFTWERK and EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN as pioneers of Electronic and Industrial music, bands like FRONT 242 and NITZER EBB called them their inspiration, and their musical ideas found their way into the sound of a wide spectrum of music, from DEPECHE MODE to the innovative pioneers of Detroit Techno.
Over 25 years and many internationally successful albums, DIE KRUPPS have developed an unmistakable signature sound that is meant to stay!

After monumental and industrial beginnings with the album ..Stahlwerksinfonie.., the foundation for Electronic Body Music was laid by the single ..Wahre Arbeit Wahrer Lohn.. (both Album and Single Of The Week in the British NME), and the following albums ..Volle Kraft Voraus.. and ..Entering The Arena.., which created international interest in the bands.. characteristic synthesis of hard electronics and highly danceable beats. European wide releases secured the band a large following, that was only meant to increase in the ..90s.

After a three year break, international chart positions of a remake of their classic track ..Wahre Arbeit.., now called ..The Machineries Of Joy.., which was a collaboration with NITZER EBB (U.S. Dance Charts Top10), marked the next chapter in the history of the band.
The following widening of their musical spectrum, which saw the addition of a more Metal inspired aggressive vocal style and guitar riffs on the album ..I.., and the essential single track ..Metal Machine Music.., was like a slap in the face of conservative critics and listeners alike. The mini album ..A Tribute To Metallica.. underlined this daring step, gaining the attention of Lars Ulrich and Co., who helped to secure the band a long term deal in the U.S.

The highly successful albums (european-wide Chart positions, Germany Top20) ..II - The Final Option.. , The Final Remixes, which consisted of remix interpretations of DIE KRUPPS tracks by fellow bands such as NINE INCH NAILS, SISTERS OF MERCY, FAITH NO MORE, CLAWFINGER and many others, and the album ..III - Odyssey Of The Mind.., were again inspiration to many upcoming new bands, such as RAMMSTEIN, whose song ..Tier.. was a direct adaptation and tribute to DIE KRUPPS ..The Dawning Of Doom.. from the album ..I ...

After several worldwide tours, and another Chart-topping album, ..Paradise Now.. (Germany No.17), on which the band collaborated with Arthur Brown (..Fire..), it was decided to bring a temporary stop to the bands.. extraordinary career.

2005 marked the 25th anniversary of Die Krupps, which was reason enough for the two original members Engler and Dörper to prove to the rest of the world that Die Krupps are far from being dead. The reunited group played festivals across Europe and proved that their live shows are as energetic as ever. The audience’s response was overwhelming and proved that the band had not lost any ground during its absence.

In November 2007, Die Krupps’s new album Too Much History was released. The new album includes fresh recordings from almost every album Die Krupps has released, and several bonus tracks including the new song “The Great Divide”, the previously unreleased “5 Millionen” and several collaborations with Client and Douglas McCarthy. As in “Germaniac” and “Fatherland,” Die Krupps have always showed their colors. The fighting spirit is unbroken.

The new chapter in DIE KRUPPS story is described by founder and mastermind Jurgen Engler as:

..25 years of Metal Machine Music, or rather Man Machine Music in the age of Robo Sapiens..,

only to be followed by the bold and provocative statement:

..DIE KRUPPS Machinery Made For Eternity..

FULL FORCE AHEAD!

History

Their initial sound throughout the 1980s combined synthesizers with metallic percussion. Die Krupps were key in the Europe wide progression of Electronic Body Music culminating with the collaboration in 1989 with British band Nitzer Ebb on a re-release of Wahrer Lohn/Wahre Arbeit. In 1992, they began to utilize guitars and more sounds derived from heavy metal music, with the release of their album I (as in the number One). It was a pioneering move which led to a number of other bands using the electronic/metal combo as a template in keeping with a deeper industrial sound. The band continued in this vein through the 1990s, releasing II (number two, with a cover heavily influenced by Deep Purple'sMachine Head). A more experimental and pensive III followed in 1995. After the release of the heavily metal-influenced album Paradise Now in 1997, the band disbanded.

One of their more famous releases is the EP Tribute To Metallica where they recorded covers of Metallica songs in their trademark heavy electronic synthesizer-style.

Jürgen Engler announced later the founding of a new project DKay.com (pronounced as "decay dot kom") and released 2 albums in 2000 and 2002.

Ralf Dörper founded the band Propaganda in 1982 after leaving Die Krupps. In 1989 he returned to Die Krupps.

Die Krupps celebrated their 25th anniversary with appearances on some major European festivals and solo appearances in 2005 and 2006.

The band's name translates as "The Krupps" and comes from the Krupp dynasty, one of pre-war Germany's main industrial families. The band is actively anti-Nazi and may have chosen this name to highlight the role of the Krupps in arming the Nazis during World War II.

In some interviews the band stated that Visconti's 1969 movie The Damned—a depiction of the fictitious German industrial dynasty of the Essenbecks—was the main inspiration.

In fall 2007 2 greatest-hits albums were released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Die Krupps: "Too Much History - The Electro Years Vol. 1" and "Too Much History - The Metal Years Vol. 2", both in digipak format. One of the albums showcases the band's electro side, and the other showcases the band's metal side. Both albums were combined as the 2-disc "Too Much History".

Die Krupps re-released two of their previous albums "Volle Kraft Voraus" and "I" in August 2008.
