20 Buck Spin / Profound Lore Announce SXSW Showcase

20 Buck Spin announces today a joint label showcase at SXSW this year with our comrades at Profound Lore Records. The two underground metal labels have been friendly for some time and agreed that SXSW could use something beyond the usual suspects this year. Each label will bring three bands from their respective, constantly growing rosters. 20 Buck Spin will bring Brooklyn NY’s black metal futurists Liturgy, Providence, RI’s chaotic whirlwind schizos The White Mice and Toronto’s violence prone The Endless Blockade. Profound Lore brings a mix of new and veteran talent in the form of Indiana’s blackened doom bringers Coffinworm, Virginia amp destroyers Salome and Chicago scene vets Yakuza.

The show will take place on Friday March 19th at Headhunters Club located at 720 Red River Street in Austin. The show will be opened by two bands not associated with either 20 Buck Spin or Profound Lore at approximately 7 p.m. Those bands will be announced shortly. Additionally our long-time friend David D’Andrea has created exclusive poster artwork for the showcase.

20 Buck Spin has existed since 2005 and is based in Olympia, Washington. It is home to the above mentioned bands and others including Samothrace, Coffins, Laudanum, Stormcrow and more.

Profound Lore Records has existed since 2004 and is based in Toronto, Ontario. It is home to acts like Cobalt, Krallice, Bloody Panda, and Portal.

20 Buck Spin Update January 6th, 2010

Happy New Year. 20 Buck Spin starts off the year right as we’ve made the new split album “The Red List” by Bastard Noise and The Endless Blockade available in our webstore. This release marks the first time the Skull has played bass and drums on an album since their 1997 split with Mumia Abu Jamal on Alternative Tentacles. “The Red List” is not due in stores until February 16th. It is being offered for a limited time at the price of $7.99. For a full description and to order go here:

20 Buck Spin has an abundance of releases planned for 2010 on both digital and vinyl formats. Samothrace will release a new album in 2010. There will be a split 12″ from Coffins and Stormcrow featuring a new track from each band. Both bands will reunite to play on the first day of Maryland Deathfest over Memorial Day Weekend. The 2xLP version of Bloody Panda’s harrowing “Summon” should be released in time for their Spring tour dates on the West Coast. Pussygutt is working on material for a vinyl only release on 20 Buck Spin due during the Summer, the full length follow up to their astonishing LP “Gathering Strengths” released a few months back via Olde English Spelling Bee.

Liturgy will be touring the Eastern seaboard all the way down to Florida and back during January. Come Spring they will begin touring all over the United States, appearing at Scion Rock Fest, SXSW and elsewhere. West Coast dates are in the works for Summer. They’ll be playing various shows with White Mice along the way who also planning over a month of dates during March and April, supporting their Ganjahovahdose LP, that will see them circle the entire U.S. Samothrace also have plans to tour various parts of the country several times during 2010.

The Endless Blockade is planning dates in Texas during March with Hatred Surge. They’ll play a few shows in Western Canada in just over a week from now as well. In addition to the Bastard Noise split, the Blockade will also release a split with Unearthly Trance in the near future. Members of the Blockade will also be releasing a 12″ EP and a full length album with their other band Slaughter Strike during 2010. The Endless Blockade will also release a discography CD collecting material from vinyl only releases on 20 Buck Spin later in the year.

Laudanum is tentatively planning more tour dates in support of 2009’s The Coronation. The album was recently released on 2xLP by our long-time friends Life Is Abuse. Order it from them. In Laudanum-related news Brainoil is becoming active again and may just release a record during 2010.

Actual Noise, our other record label, will release a CD by K11, a.k.a. Italian experimentalist Pietro Riparbelli. The CD, titled “Metaphonic Portrait 1230 d.c.” is a dark ghostly vision of found sound, radio signals, organ and voices, recorded in the lower Basilica of Assisi Cathedral in Italy. K11 released a CD recorded in the ruins of Aleister Crowley’s Thelema Abbey in Sicily previously via the Aurora Borealis label.

We can now also announce that 20 Buck Spin will participate in South By Southwest in Austin, Texas this year between March 17th and 21st. We will have an official showcase that we will split with the incomparable Profound Lore label. Each label will offer three of its bands. 20 Buck Spin will showcase The Endless Blockade, Liturgy and White Mice. Profound Lore will announce their showcasing acts in the near future. Date and venue are still being determined and will hopefully be announced shortly. All three 20 Buck Spin bands will be playing other shows in around the Austin area during that time.
