Metal Battle Winner Romania: ALTAR

Our Romanian friends ascertained their national winner and they are no newcomers at all: with ALTAR, the jury chose a Thrash/Hardcore band which has already a band history of about 20 years. And that’s not all; they were one of the first metal bands ever from Romania. Of course these four guys have a lot of stage experience and they can boast with it. If you shared the stage with Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Testament or Cradle Of Filth you are demanded to have something on the ball. So ALTAR is supposed to be one of the highlights on the W.E.T. stage this year.

Wacken

Started at the beginning of 1991, Altar announces itself as one of the most spectacular and prodigious Trash/Metal/Hardcore bands in Romania. This was only the beginning; what came not long after, was undoubtedly the most important page in the romanian Metal History. The band - an harmonious intercultural mixture (ethnic romanian & hungarian), had a blinding fast ascension, the first year in existence securing the position of "Best Newcomer", unanimously given by critics and press, as well as a Popularity Award. LAST WARNING - Altar's discographical debut - becomes one of the best sold rock albums after 1989, and the band is announced "Best Rock Group" by Pop Rock & Show. The history repeats itself 3 years after, along with the second album - RESPECT, each of the members receiving an award for the section they represented.

In 1998 Altar is officially recognized as leader in the romanian Rock scene with the album BORN AGAIN. In 2006 – ATITUDINE - the first entire album in romanian, nominates Altar for Best Rock in the MTV Music Awards. The band breaks the records by sustaining a very large number of concerts, and consecutively participating at the Open-Air festivals all around Romania, as well as outside the country borders: StudFest, Maniac Depression Tour, Skip Rock, Rock Your Mind, Stufstock, Fanfest, Peninsula, Artmania, Rock la Mures, Top T, Adrenaline Tour, Rockin Transilvania, Rock in Reghin III and many more. At Hungary’s Pepsi-Sziget festival Altar was the single romanian band ever who performed on the Main Stage, just before the Headliners from PRODIGY in 1996 and beacuse of his crushing show the band was invited again in 2007 to perform on the famous Hammer World Stage. In all these years, Altar has more then often shared the stage with giants names in the worldwide Rock genre, both in Romania and in Europe: Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Testament, Prodigy, Napalm Death, Kreator, Iggy Pop, Uriah Heep, Ian Gillan, Sick Of It All, Exploited, Clowfinger, Him, Anathema, Cradle of Filth, Era, Schint Acht, Amorphis, Moby Dick, Tankcsapda.

2009 brings the UNDER CONTROL E.P. - a preview of the fifth album, being currently prepared in the studio and announced as the most complex, sophisticated and powerful discographic material, maybe the great masterpiece of the band.

2010 ongoing, Altar did some Live dates to fire them up and to bring raw energy and excitement before they hit the Studio. Now "Recordings" are on the way!

After 18 years of activity, still in the frontlines of romanian rock, Altar remains the band with the most explosive, energetic and spectacular Live Shows, fact certified with every oportunity both by the crowds reaction worldwide and by the promoters of the biggest live events.
