Candlelight Records will release a special digital-only covers EP from Chicago's THE ATLAS MOTH on September 28. Titled The One Amongst the Weed Fields, it contains very special renditions of "California Dreamin’" (The Mamas & The Papas), "Fearless" (Pink Floyd), "Golden" (Failure), and "Five to One" (The Doors). Guitarist/vocalist Stavros’ explains, "we have been thinking about doing a covers EP for a while. Thirteen-hour drives with only a radio to entertain you eventually takes a toll. But every once in a while we’d hear a song pop up that would strike us as something we all wanted to make into a ‘Moth song. These are the few we came up with from a terribly long list, and we are pretty proud of the outcome. It was a great way to have some fun, produce something new, and do a little pre-production for our new album which we hope to record later this year."
Stereogum today premiered a the track from the EP, in the form of "Golden" by Failure. Check it out here: http://stereogum.com/484642/the-atlas-moth-golden-failure-cover-stereogum-premiere/franchises/haunting-the-chapel/

A limited number of download cards will be available for purchase during the band's upcoming tour with friends Nachtmystium, Zoroaster, and Dark Castle, a special treat for fans planning to come out to the show. The tour, sponsored by Stereogum, is set to kick off September 9 and will make twenty stops before ending in Chicago on October 2. The band will perform selections from their current album, A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky, voted one of 2009’s best albums by Decibel Magazine.

THE ATLAS MOTH has been touring consistently since the release of A Glorified Piece of Blue Skylast fall. The five-piece was a "buzz band" at the South-By-Southwest Festival earlier this year where they made six showcase appearances. Brooklyn Vegan notes, "the juxtaposition of vocalist/guitarist Stavros's high and low pitched screams against David's soaring and spot-on clean vocals sounds great against the wall of slight synths and crunchy guitars. I already can't wait to see them again." Noisecreeep adds, "their feedback-drenched space jams spiral off into rapturous psychedelia as often as they dredge up the dirtiest dixie-sludge. This is a band to watch, no doubt about it."
Formed in early 2007, THE ATLAS MOTH has carefully perfected their bone-shaking heaviness. An awesome metal hybrid, the quintet unites sludge, doom, psychedelia and more into a musical adventure few bands can deliver. "This is heavy music for heavy thinkers," says Stavros. A Glorified Piece of Blue Sky is the band’s full length debut. It follows 2008’s highly regarded EP, Pray for Tide. Punknews says, THE ATLAS MOTH "gives me shivers... a band to watch." Spinner.com notes, "THE ATLAS MOTH's combination of bluesy, psychedelia, and metal makes for a pretty awesomely grim sonic blend." The band has performed alongside Pentagram, Saviours, Intronaut, Wolves in the Throne Room, Coalesce, and Harvey Milk, among others.
