Qafas had begun as a conceptual creation in the year 2008 by Learza (Omar A.), gradually developing into a solo musical project from Bahrain. The name is derived from the Arabic word for “cage.” Qafas is and will not be a product of any political or religious themes and ideology. Qafas is strictly based on misanthropy, existentialism, and longing. Activity as a physical manifestation of the project began in the early months of 2009 - in which came the first demo Fajr, and was released to a limited number of copies on cassette format by Thorn Laceration Records. The genre adopted during the beginning of Qafas was structured to be a combination of Funeral Doom Metal with classical and symphonic musical influences. An alteration in the musical procession took place in 2010 - during the first recording of the first Qafas EP ‘Al-Ahlaam’ (The Dreams); with a more Avant-garde approach incorporating influences from extreme Metal and non-Metal genres, as a form of experimentation without being infixed into a single musical genre in particular.
