To commemorate three years of activity for the label, Hypnotic Dirge Records is once again releasing a free compilation album to serve as a sampler that showcases the many diverse sounds of the artists within HDR as well as being a nice representation of the sound, asthetic, and feeling we hope to portray as a label overall. Besides this, the free compilation series serves as a thank you to those who has supported Hypnotic Dirge Records over the past three years and contines to do so. As always in the annual series of HDR compilations, this year's edition which is entitled 'Desolation. Dissonance. Delirum.' is available as a free digital download with a collection of audio, video, visual, and text within.

Featured on this year's compilation are 11 audio tracks from 10 ten different artists on the HDR Roster, as well as a guest apperance by the project 'Our Last Day on Earth' created by the mastermind of the symphonic doom metal project 'The Howling Void'. As for the HDR artists featured on this compilation, some artists - such as netra, and Ov Hollowness - have decided to record and release a track which is exclusive to this compilation, while others have decided to showcase a track from their upcoming album release on HDR. An exception to this is Neige et Noirceur whose track 'Hymne II : Neige Noire' was recently released on their new album on Sepulchral Productions. Overall there is over 70 minutes of audio to be heard on this compilation, most of which has not been made public before this release.

Nat - Female Vocalist for 'Spirits Dwell
In addition to the main feature of the compilation - which is obviously the music, there is also a music video from the Iranian project 'Silent Path' which is another project from the musician behind Ekove Efrits - Saman Nu. The video is for the track 'Gray Dolls From Nowhere' which will be featured on the debut Silent Path album 'Mourner Portraits' to be released through HDR in 2012.

The album artwork on this compilation is once again created by Marc Hoyland known best for his ambient project 'Hoyland', the goth band '13 Candles' as various black metal projects. The inner pages of the booklet on the compilation features photography from my photography project 'Hypnotic Dirge Photography' which was further edited by Marc Hoyland. Within the compilation artwork, you will find a short note from most of the artists on the album explaining their contribution on the compilation. Other features in the visual side include a gallery of photographs from Elan O'Neal Photography, and Hypnotic Dirge Photography, as well as a couple of shots of 'Nat' - the female vocalist who will appear on the track 'Spirits Dwell' on the upcoming Stroszek release. Finally, to complete the compilation, there is a short text piece by Elan O'Neal entitled 'Sense', a small expressive "poem" by N. Skog, as well as the lyrics to the track 'Can't Make Things Undone' by Claudio Alcara of Stroszek.

Overall this compilation is a nice collection of art from a variety of different mediums from the artists on Hypnotic Dirge Records. It should paint a picture and give a preview towards the upcoming releases on HDR in 2012 as well as recollecting tracks from prior HDR releases. Make sure you download this compilation as it is completely free, and share it with as many people as possible.

[Notes from artists]

Ov Hollowness - End in View
"Why must man live for the sake of others? Why must he be a sacrificial animal? Why is that the good? There is no earthly reason for it—and, ladies and gentlemen, in the whole history of philosophy no earthly reason has ever been given."

End In View, a one-off, not written for any Ov Hollowness release... Creating music comes in many forms, or shall I say begins in many forms. Riffs, images, continuous melodies in the mind, anywhere, and then put to the instrument, and once the beginning takes hold, it drives itself...it grows... As it was with this song.

The idea, End In View, can be a plan or direction of sorts. "Its appraisal springs from the fact that there is something lacking or wanting in the existing situation." That lack, sometimes, can come from falsely perceived limitations, unknowingly allowed in, to kill our own paths.

Neige et Noirceur - Hymne II (Neige Noire)
This song is inspired by the long and wintry way to get to the black mountain. We can behold the majesty and  the darkness of the white season. Feel the evening winter storm!

Epitimia - Epikrisis V : Rorschach Inkblot
Rorschach inkblots – is a psychological test to detect psychosis. Applying to the lyrical hero of this song (and the whole album, which is constructed as a medical diagnosis) it is the border between madness and reality. This is his opportunity to realize his illness on the one hand and one more step towards total mind confusion on the other. There, in the world of mental pathology, physician is another dark character, as well as in this song.

The Foetal Mind - We Are Nothing
Beyond human being, mind feel the element of life. Earth life outcast reborn in nothingness because everything around is Nothing and "We are Nothing"...

Stroszek - Crows
I am sick of this room.

netrra - Mind-bending Chemicals
July, 3rd.
I have been staying home for the most part of the week. When was the last time I even spoke to somebody ? Norwegian nights are really getting on my nerves, it's so damn bright out there. Let's burn some more braincells now, I'm already all fucked up anyway. Nevermind people, everything's in my head.

Ekove Efrits - Faceless Moments
Writing about my songs is of the hardest things to me in this world because I speak through my music completely but I thought it would not be bad if I try to write few words about Faceless Moments, the second track in the Conceptual Horizon album. In this song I tried to create an atmospheric scene where an angel of death is talking with someone and says I'm out of time completely so I was present in your childhood and at the same time in front of you now and also there in your future too. Death is nothing separate of life but sometimes we get caught up and involved in our daily routines and it keeps our minds away from that and maybe we feel it's something that happens to others but not ourselves.

Old Forgotten Lands - ...with each prevailing wind
'With Each Prevailing Wind' is not only a nod to somber film score compositions but also an audial reminder I have given myself to always know that there is a better means of existence out there. If you pay attention to the words spoken, it is almost as if I am reassuring myself of something I too frequently lose sight of as a human in the modern existence. My hope is that my inadequate measure of fulfillment in 21st century living can get completely crushed and destroyed in the midst of the uprising of truth and primal simplicity, in a natural world where every day tastes so much sweeter only due to the fact that we are alive.

Funeral Fornication - In Exile
This song is going to be the first track off next years album, Promethean Lament.  The song itself deals with the barren feeling of belonging to no home, and being shunned by all who know you.  The theme of Promethean Lament is a story about an individual who is cast out of his homeland, and whose journey leads to a battle and victory over a deity.  This is turn changes his physical and mental state, causing him to evolve into something else.  I wont spoil the rest, but the overall idea for the album is the transient state of existence and the despair it can bring.  "In Exile" is the first chapter in this journey.

Silent Path - Filth of Mankind
This song is related to circumstances in humanity's nature in where it has forced to turn into something evil. More than thousands and thousands of "moral justifications" exist for wars but regardless of them there is one fact that is clear enough and stands alone and that's the killing.

Hypnotic Dirge Records Saskatoon Riverside - Darkness Descends

"As the ancient myth makers knew we're children equally of the earth and the sky. In our tenure on this planet we've accumulated dangerous evolutionary baggage, propensities for aggression and ritual, submission to leaders, hostility to outsiders, all of which puts our survival in some doubt. But we've also acquired compassion for others, love for our children, a desire to learn from history and experience and a great soaring passionate intelligence, the clear tools for our continued survival and prosperity. Which aspects of our nature will prevail is uncertain, particularly when our visions and prospects are bound to one small part of the small planet Earth. But up there in the Cosmos an inescapable perspective awaits."
-Carl Sagan
