DACAST: Dédale as Chaotic art!

Do you ever questioned yourself what would happen if someone mixed ingredients that you thought were impossible to mix, like fish and meat in the same plate for example? If you think about it, fish and meat are both great foods but it´s not common to use both in a dish. You certainly wouldn´t eat cooked whitefish in a burger, at least if you are a normal person I think.

And there´s a “but” coming… A master or visionary can easily create with different ingredients, sometimes completely opposed, a truly inspiring creation or at least an enjoyable creation out of the ordinary that really impresses by its innovation. The Parisian band DACAST is this visionary and innovator force, with a chaotic art of lose notes, anti-melodic scales, confusing sequence of heavy chords and abnormal progression that turns this band into a complex impressionistic energy.

The Dacast entity was formed in 2002 and was created with influences of the impressionism of the XIX century but was also immersed in a timeless space where it remained absorbing the evolution of time acquiring its own modern style. The Impressionism was a movement that began in France and was related with the painting but quickly affected the music scene of that time. With the Impressionism music grew and became more extensive and comprehensive with the use of different scales and forms it was characterized by dissonance, suggestion and atmosphere being less obvious and emotional.

Dacast is not easy to digest, they are a progressive metal jazz band with a very raw and old school core sound, they are very metallic and very noisy with an ugly distortion contemplating complicated compositions forming a chaotic musical ambiance. When I hear “Dédale” the latest infernal creation of Dacast I am led into a mysterious approach to music and I give my first steps in an unexpected category of sound without form but with a huge presence that gets me hooked and gives me chills. The non natural progression of the music played by this brilliant musicians and technique brings out the best of the jazz but is also impressive for the heaviness element of metal working in perfect disharmony in this unique art. They transpire artists such as King Crimson, Mile Davis, Dillinger Escape Plan and Mike Patton but created their own sound only sharing the technique, passion and impressionist style of these artists.

Dédale” was released February 4th at Gheea Music and it´s 35 minutes of a colliding style of cultures, music, history and improvisation. Actually this two sides album was recorded live so it has this huge and raw sound with improvisations sections inherent to jazz that turns this work even more unexpected and real. If you are this guy who don’t want to experience a new hard and complex sound or if you simply don´t appreciate jazz this album definitively is not for you, but I recommend it anyway, this magnificent work is all about passion and soul and I think it is possible to reach everyone cause even the simplest mind can internalize this beautiful complicated music.
