Sloth
Herder are a black metal and grindcore band from Frederick, MD, USA formed in 2010 by Sean Wilhide (drums) and Nick Craggs (guitar). Josh Lyon (vocals) joined shortly after and the bloody trio recorded a demo in 2011. In 2012, Sloth Herder became a four man foundation with the addition of Luke Ibach (bass), and released the “Sluggard” EP the band first work as a whole.
The quartet plays a powerful blackened grind a good mixture of the old black metal and a really nice hardcore punk, rock noise style. These influences make this EP very short but destructive and really simple with 8 minutes of ravishing gutturals, fast rhythms alternating with slow tempo beats, heavy riffing with a thrashy flavor and a good technique. “Sluggard” is a black hardcore sound that relates intimately with the USA, it’s very underground, very strong and blood shedding with an incredibly raucous distortion, each one of the four songs has two minutes of musical defacing, two minutes of instantaneous headbanging which unfortunately end in a flash but that on the other hand leave eager for more.
Telling the truth I wasn’t expecting such brutal music when I first saw the band, only their name took me to think that their music would be a slaughter of notes but I was immediately blown away by their first music “Blown” with a powerful and fast beginning and I enjoyed every killing second of every music in this small EP.
The USA underground scene saw the birth of another promising band. Sloth Herder deserves to be discovered, the quartet pulled out a good work in general, it’s nothing new and innovator but it´s sharp-set to destroy a stage near you with a hard and monstrous black metal grindcore sound.
