BLACK COBRA Uncoils To Crush Brain-Cave Festival In Brooklyn This Sunday

San Francisco-based sludge-mangling duo BLACK COBRA will uncoil across the country in Brooklyn this week for a devastating one-off show as part of the diverse Brain-Cave Festival. The annual festival showcases an incredible array of artists of all natures from around Brooklyn and abroad for four days. Undoubtedly the most punishing act set to perform at this year’s installment, BLACK COBRA will take one of the main headlining slots of the final day of the festival this Sunday, April 14th at Club Europa, joining Public Speaking, Belus, Bezoar, Jon Mizrachi, Ancient Sky, Mrs Adam Schatz, David First and more.

In June BLACK COBRA will take part in the massive annual three day Hellfest extravaganza in Clisson, France. Running from June 21st through 23rd, this year’s festival includes bands as massive as Kiss, ZZ Top, Danzig and Twisted Sister, with Black Cobra playing on the first day in “The Valley” joining Neurosis, Sleep, High On Fire, Pallbearer, labelmates Black Breath and Eagle Twin and more on one massive bill.

Released in October 2011 via Southern Lord, BLACK COBRA's fourth LP Invernal was one of the most critically acclaimed releases to emerge from the metal/sludge scene that year. Recorded at Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou's God City Studio and mastered by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, Weedeater), the album propelled the most diversified and matured songwriting from the duo to date forward with incredibly thunderous production, the theme to the entire record based on a post-apocalyptic trek to a nuclear infested and mutated Antarctica, inspired in part by the treks of English researcher Ernest Shackleton. The band perpetually toured through the year surpassing their 600th show mark in 2012 since the release of their debut LP Bestial in 2006.

View the band’s ominous video for “The Crimson Blade” and live footage of BLACK COBRA below.

BLACK COBRA Drummer Dominates James Bond 50th Anniversary Piece

Credits: Shannon Corr
BLACK COBRA drummer Rafa Martinez was featured in a colossal piece commemorating the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, published today on the National Heavy Metal sector of Examiner.com. Obviously a superfan of the entire Bond legacy, Martinez offered so much personal insight into the franchise of movies -- even staging a photo shoot with help from Bay Area photographer Shannon Corr – the feature’s author Mark Morton designated a specific spotlight to his contributions.

Pour a hefty one – shaken, not stirred of course – and get your Friday night Bond fix RIGHT HERE.

Several weeks ago, BLACK COBRA released the sinister video for “Crimson Blade,” the first official video from their lauded 2011-released Invernal LP, streaming now at the band’s Youtube channel HERE or below.

BLACK COBRA Release First Video From Invernal LP Via Rue Morgue Magazine Unique DIY-Filmed “Crimson Blade” Video Unveiled

Devastating metallic sludge innovators BLACK COBRA have today released their new unique, sinister video for “Crimson Blade,” the first official video to be released from their lauded 2011-released Invernal LP.

Conceived/constructed by the band themselves and director Greg Downing (of bands Glitter Wizard and Buffalo Tooth), BLACK COBRA’s “Crimson Blade” filmed in three days for absolutely no money. The plot portrays the concept of the song, following one man as he devolves to a previous state of humanity and resorts to cannibalism in a post-apocalyptic world. During the filming of the gory visual depiction, actor Landon Bates actually ended up accidentally cutting himself multiple times, with actual wounds fueling some of the bloody scenes.

Stated the members of BLACK COBRA: “The video’s concept was a collaboration between director Greg Downing and ourselves. We were familiar with his work in the bands Glitter Wizard and Buffalo Tooth and he was enthusiastic about working with us as well. In general, it's about isolation, paranoia and desperation. The utter darkness also gives it an overall feel of confusion. We're really stoked on how it came together.”

Watch the gnarly, frozen carnage of “The Crimson Blade” unfold via the horror-fanatics at Rue Morgue Magazine AT THIS LOCATION.

Having recently returned from a strand of worldwide touring in support of their Invernal LP -- where the duo surpassed playing their 600th show since the release of their debut LP Bestial in 2006 -- BLACK COBRA continue to pick up high profile gigs throughout California, and will be performing with their friends in both Saviours and Big Business in the next handful of weeks. And as always, more shows and news will be announced shortly.

BLACK COBRA was recently featured on Fox News Latino! Check out the massive coverage AT THIS LOCATION and also watch a full live set from Saint Vitus bar in Brooklyn RIGHT HERE.

We have some stuff coming up on the horizon during the rest of the year though. The Japanese release of Invernal should be on its way soon, and a video for 'The Crimson Blade' is in the works. We're definitely going to keep moving."
