Ohio progressive black/death metallers LOCUSTA will kick off their first tour of 2011 this Sunday in Richmond, Virginia with Battlemaster and War Graves. The short but ravenous trek will massacre eight more cities before winding down in Columbus, Ohio at the Carabar.
Commented guitarist Dru Silver: "After a year of absence from touring, we're happy to announce that this coming week we will be kicking off our first tour of 2011 on the East Coast of the United States. Speaking of said absence, our drummer just became the proud father of a newborn daughter -- congrats Simon! -- and will be unable to join us. However this has granted us the opportunity for a very special lineup that you will only get a chance to see, as Alex Tomlin from Battlemaster will be stepping in to offer his services of tearing up the skins for us. Don't miss it!"

These items will only be available at these shows.
In related news, LOCUSTA will play The Goregrowler's Ball in San Antonio this coming November, alongside metal giants such as Suffocation, Hirax, Exhumed, Goatwhore, Aborted and many more. In conjunction with that festival appearance, the band are set to appear on a four-way split release to be unleashed by Texas metal label Ossuary Industries, along with Demoniacal Genuflection, Iniquitous (featuring Mike Smith of Suffocation), HOD, and Ingurgitate. The split will feature three unreleased LOCUSTA songs as well as a cover, and will be available for purchase at the Ossuary Industries tent during the Goregrowler's Ball. A South/West coast tour will be booked around the festival, and tentative plans are being made to enter the studio to record their next full-length sometime between fall of 2011 and winter of 2012. More tour dates and updates to come.

LOCUSTA released their debut full-length via Kentucky-based Pragmatic Records upon an unsuspecting underground in 2010. The 10-track, self-titled offering was recorded/engineered by Brian Simakis at Capital City Studios, mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering and features strikingly stark cover art by local artist Stefan Hoza. Formed in the fall of 2006, LOCUSTA take their name from a female chemist from Ancient Rome regarded as the first documented serial killer. It was rumored that in A.D. 54, she may have been hired by Agrippina The Younger to kill the Emperor Claudius, possibly with a poisoned dish of mushrooms.

Commented guitarist Dru Silver: "A big thanks to anyone that came out to see us on the west coast. Anyone who had a hand in putting the shows together, gave us food or shelter, or helped us in any way, your support was invaluable. A special thanks to those who took a chance on our band even though they may have been unfamiliar with us. We hope to see all of you again soon.”
In related news, the band has new merch for sale online. “We’re still mega broke from tour, so any support in that area would be especially awesome,” laughs Silver. Check out the goods here:http://ww.frozendirt.org.
LOCUSTA released their debut full-length via Kentucky-based Pragmatic Records upon an unsuspecting underground earlier this year. Currently comprised of vocalist Brad Deerhake, guitarists Peter Hughes (Night Soil) and Dru Silver, bassist Scott Hyatt and drummer Simon Tracy, the band's painstaking DIY sensibility has found them sharing stages with the likes of Coliseum, Skeletonwitch, Finntroll, Demiricous, The Gates of Slumber, Thou and local Columbus metal veterans Deadsea.
Ohio progressive black/death metallers LOCUSTA, who regrettably had to skip the entire first week of their US tour with Tennessee black/doom titans Argentinum Astrum due to vehicular trouble, today issued the following update from the road:
Said guitarist Dru Silver: "Unfortunately, due to van trouble we had to scrap the first week of our tour; we had the (dis)pleasure of breaking down in a dry county in Kentucky for three days, and with the added financial stress of automotive repairs it was next to impossible to go on as planned. Fortunately for us they were mostly regional dates, however we apologize to anyone that was planning on attending any of those shows on either band's behalf. We shall return...
"In other news, we've been immensely enjoying the natural wonders that the western frontier has to offer-- particularly Massacre Rocks/Craters of the moon in Idaho -- and have been getting along great with the folks in Argentinum... practically peas in a pod. The reception has been good so far, and we can't wait for what else this side of the country has to offer! Many thanks to those that have aided us in our journey so far."

"These dudes have taken the time to master their respective instruments which, coupled with their love for Suffocation and thrash metal, has resulted in a good showing of 'blackened death metal.'" -- Stereokiller/PA Hardcore
"If I was forced to make a comparison, I’d say the LOCUSTA are Necrophagist but more interesting, combined with early, early Lamb Of God, when they still had wicked sharp teeth." -- Metal Army
"Earthy, dark and somber are fitting but imperfect descriptors. Combining technical death, progressive and black metal without losing footing is not an easy thing to accomplish … Where some bands might get carried away with a diddly solo or let the drummer blister away at the expense of melody, LOCUSTA have a firm understanding that these parts should serve the aesthetic of the song. What that means is that no matter how drastic a change in pace from one passage of a song to the next, there's a recognizable pattern weaving through all." - Metal Review
