Having celebrated TAAKE's 20th Anniversary last year with the release of "Gravkamre, Kroner og Troner", a 20-song, 2 CD collection of rarities, the contribution that frontman and founder Hoest has made to the Black Metal scene, both in terms of recording and performing, is immeasurable.  Time has not stood still for a band that is not afraid to take risks, but which has always remained true to its roots.  Whilst many new Black Metal bands have steadfastly refused to move away from the generic formula that frequently risks sinking the whole genre into a sea of platitudes and unoriginality, TAAKE has shown that Black Metal is still very much alive, fresh, original and thriving.

TAAKE, AETERNUS AND SLEGEST SET TO TOUR TOGETHER IN MAY

DARK ESSENCE RECORDS will field three of its bands for a ten-date European tour in May.  Along for what promises to be an epic programme of Extreme music are iconic Black Metallers TAAKE,  veteran Dark Metallers AETERNUS and SLEGEST, the new project from former VREID guitarist Ese.

Routing for the TAAKE, AETERNUS, SLEGEST May 2014 tour as follows:
Thu 08: Le Ferrailleur, Nantes, FR
Fri 09:  Le Divan du Monde, Paris, FR
Sat 10:  The Garage, London, UK
Sun 11:  Soundcontrol, Manchester, UK
Mon 12:  Ivory Blacks, Glasgow, Scotland
Tue 13: 013, Tilburg, NL
Wed 14: Club From Hell, Erfurt, DE
Thu 15: Rock It, Aalen, DE
Fri 16: Helvete, Oberhausen, DE
Sat 17: TBC

Formed in 1993, and having celebrated their 20th Anniversary last year with the release of "Gravkamre, Kroner og Troner", a 20-song, 2 CD collection of rarities, TAAKE is a band that needs no introduction to any fan of Norwegian Black Metal, and founder Hoest's  contribution to the genre is immense.  The epitome of what a Black Metal frontman should be, Hoest has remained true to his Black Metal roots, but at the same time he is constantly able to surprise his fans with his ability to breathe life and originality into a genre that is often mired in preconceptions .  More information about TAAKE here.

Founded in 1993 by guitarist and frontman Ares, AETERNUS  is one of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, a genre that combines features from both Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes.  AETERNUS re-emerged last year from a seven-year hiatus with, appropriately enough, the release of their seventh full-length album "...And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth”,  and a new line up that comprises Ares on guitars and vocals, Phobos (GRAVDAL, MALSAIN) on drums,  Specter (TORTORUM, ex GRAVDAL) on guitars and Eld (KRAKOW, VITHR, ISABELLA LEROY) on bass.  More information about AETERNUS can be found here.

Following his departure from VREID, where he played guitar on four of the iconic band’s albums Ese formed SLEGEST in 2010, so whilst the band may be a relative newcomer compared to its tour-mates TAAKE and AETERNUS, its founder has a wealth of skill and experience to draw on.  Inspired by BLACK SABBATH, Ese uses harsh vocals to create a special blend of classic heavy rock and old-school black metal that is both dark and sinister whilst being propelled along by a down and dirty groove that is immediate and catchy and which earned last year's debut album plaudits from critics and fans alike.   Aside from Ese on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars, SLEGEST’s live line up includes  Sør (BÄÄÄV, VONBRÅTEN) on Lead Guitars, Hövard (BOMBEKLÜCHTER)  on Bass and Fjøsne on Drums.  More information on SLEGEST.

TAAKE (NOR), CAVUS (FIN) + supports Sweden 20th of May 2012

Black Metal band Taake will make one special unique performance in Stockholm, Sweden. The evening of total blasphemy is taking place at Fryshuset, Klubben on the 20th of May 2012.

The band was originally founded in Bergen, Norway in 1993 by the name Thule but change the name to Taake (meaning fog) to better represent the band.

There has been a lot of controversy around the norwegian Black Metal bands and Taake is no exception. Incarserations and very controversal live shows has made the imprint on the band. The band will not take any political agenda in their shows but are firm believers in the freedom of expression.

Supporting Taake on this night is finnish Black Metal band Cavus. Cavus is one of the new wave Black Metallers but have their roots in the underground Black Metal. Playing shows with bands like Mayhem, Gorgoroth and Behexen they are one of the most primitive and raw bands out there.

Norwegian band causes stir with anti-Islamic lyrics; nominated for prize

Hoest "Taake" (?)

According to the Arab television network Al Arabiya, Norwegian black metallers Taake, have caused malaise in the Islamic community after being nominated for a prestigious Norwegian music awards, despite the lyrics on the album being allegedly anti-Islamic . The text can be read below, more here.

The Norwegian band ‘Taake’ has recently been nominated for a prestigious Norwegian music for best heavy metal band despite lyrics in the album being anti-Islamic.
The Spellemann award is likened to the American Grammy award or the British Brit award in the Scandinavian country’s music industry.
But critics argue that lyrics in their new album’s song ‘Orkan’ (Hurricane) are xenophobic as they include the phrase “To hell with Muhammad and the Mohammedans” and their “unforgivable customs”, whilst the song ends “Norway will awaken”.
Their nomination has sparked outrage among many listeners, claiming the band has gone too far.
However, Hoest, the band’s front man, has refuted these claims and said that their sole intention was to criticize religion. “Our view, in the name of freedom of expression, is that it is shameful to adhere to Christianity or Islam,” he said.
Marte Thorsby, chairman of the prize committee’s board, denied any allegations that the judges had not properly listened to the album before its nomination. “We enjoy full freedom of expression in Norway and a Spellemann jury is not going to censor content in any way,” she told Aftenposten newspaper.
The issue comes at a time when the country is still recovering from the massacre of 69 people, mostly teenagers, in Utoyo island in July last year by Anders Behring Breivik who said he committed the acts to prevent Norway from “Marxist and Muslim colonization”.
This, however, is not the first time Taake has created controversy.
When performing at a concert in Essen in Germany, Hoest wore a Swastika where public displays of the swastika are illegal. This led to the cancellation of the band’s European tour and outrage among many heavy metal fans across Germany.
Hoest responded to the controversy by saying: “We truly apologize to all of our collaborators who might get [into] problems because of the Essen swastika scandal, except for the Untermensch (subhuman) owner of that club; you can go suck a Muslim,” he is quoted as saying on the band’s website.
In addition to this many of the band members have been imprisoned for violence, including Hoest who has been jailed three times.
The band’s most recent statement takes a slightly less offensive tone and states “Taake has never been a political band, and we do not encourage either violence or racism.”

VULTURE INDUSTRIES TO PERFORM TWO SPECIAL SHOWS WITH GUEST APPEARANCE BY TAAKE’S HOEST

VULTURE INDUSTRIES will play two shows in February, which will see the Norwegian Progressive Extreme Metallers perform a set which will include some unexpected material that the band is rehearsing especially for these two performances. Also making a guest appearance for some of the set will be TAAKE front man Hoest.
The first of the two dates will take place on the 3rd February at Dirty Skunks, in the Kino Siska, an old movie theatre in Ljubljana, Slovenia.  Entrance to this show will be free, as the venue will be celebrating its tenth anniversary.  The second date will be on the 4th February at Blue Hell in Budapest, and will mark VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ first ever appearance in Hungary.
Based in Bergen, and with two critically acclaimed releases on DARK ESSENCE RECORDS under their belts, VULTURE INDUSTRIES’ line up is composed of Bjornar Nilsen (BLACK HOLE GENERATOR) on vocals, keys and programming, guitarists Øyvind Madsen (SULPHUR, ex-ENSLAVED) and Eivind Huse (SULPHUR), Kyrre Teigen on bass and Tor Helge Gjengedal (ex-TAAKE) on drums.   Nilsen, who also happens to be TAAKE’s producer, is known for his highly theatrical on-stage performances, and the additional appearance of Hoest, one of Black Metal’s most focussed and dynamic front men, is an indication that these two shows promise to be something very special.
More information about VULTURE INDUSTRIES can be found on the band’s website.
