David Bonk, piano player and mastermind of this project, has rewritten and expanded Wolfgang‘s aria, not too mention giving it a huge boost by adding two guitars, bass and drums. The way it‘s supposed to be, metalheads might say and sounds great.
Athonite transfer classical masterpieces into the world of Metal. You can witness it this Friday at the Wacken Open Air at 30 minutes past midnight on the Party Stage - including orchestra, choir, pyros and lasers.

Death Metallers GOTHIC were chosen by jury to "Metal Battle Romanian" finalist band for Wacken .
The band mixes death metal with dark sounds and meanwhile the band is working on their next album "Fall of Gods".

That´s right - we speak about Napalm Death! The fathers of grindcore once again return to lay waste to the Wacken Open Air. After 27 years and 13 studio albums they will show the Wacken audience again that they are still the spearhead of their scene. Grindcore at its best!
As announced before Moonspell will play an exclusive orchestral acoustic show at Wacken!
Now the band provides us with further details about the show. The set is called “Sombra“ and the band will be supported by a lot of talented guest musicians.
So the five-member band, playing acoustic instruments exclusively for this show, will be reinforced by 4 cellists, 3 female background singers and one percussionist. During the show Moonspell will perform a best of selection of songs from their almost 20 years lasting history as unique dark acoustic versions.
In their home country Portugal the band has already earned a lot of fame and success with sold out venues and amazing critics.
So prepare for a really unique Moonspell show with some kind of gloomy atmosphere you have never experienced before!!!
To All the Devil Driver Fans, I would like to clear up some confusion regarding Wacken this year. No we are not playing, in fact we are NOT doing a summer Festival run in Europe this year however will see you in the fall for SURE either on a package or on a DevilDriver Headline run.
Another great band is confirmed – Devil Driver! The band of ex – Coal Chamber vocalist Dez Fafara had acquired a huge fan base during the last few years. In 2011 the band will play for the first time at Wacken und furthermore show you the songs of their fifth album, which will be released in February 2011!
The winners of the Brazilian and Portuguese Metal Battle are confirmed: PRAYERS OF SANITY from Lagos (P) and CANGAÇO from Recife (BR) have won the respective Metal Battle.
Founded in 2008, PRAYERS OF SANITY are playing good ol’ Thrash Metal but with modern influences. They are “not just another Thrash band” and played gigs with e.g. Municipal Waste or Gama Bomb.
CANGAÇO embrace a mix of Death Metal and Folk to get their unique metal sound. Another good aspect is that they feel certain that cultural and regional differences are the last thing to care about.
Look forward to some Latin touched metal at the W.E.T. stage this year!

Prayers of Sanity appeared in Lagos, Algarve, decided to show everyone that 80's Thrash still lives. Formed in December 2005 by guitarist André, bassman Carlos and guitarist/vox Tião (in that time he was drumer/vox), Prayers had their inicial line-up complete. Some time after and with some tryouts, the drummer Bruno was found and the final piece to their line-up was added.
Altough influenced by several music genres, Thrash-Metal stood out and defined the stile of these Portuguese Thrashers.
After 20years of the origin of this genre, Prayers of Sanity made Thrash-Metal a constant meal, but still adds its touch of modern energy, beer and party! Prayers of Sanity are not "just another Thrash band"!
After some important gigs like Algarve em Chamas VII and sharing stages with international bands like Gama Bomb(IRL), Bonded by Blood(USA), Sworn Amongst(SWE), Municipal Waste(USA) and with some important national bands like Digamma, Mordaça, Wako, Capitão Fantasma, etc., they've decided to record with Dalma Productions their debut album "Religion Blindness" summer 2008.
Estou a projectar uma viagem para o próximo ano numa auto-caravana a Wacken na Alemanha, em princípio quatro portugueses aficionados do heavy metal marcarão presença no mais conceituado festival do género do mundo.
Iremos em família,este é um sonho que acalento há alguns anos e que penso realizar. "A Meca dos apreciadores de heavy metal".
Na viagem constará paragens em Espanha, França e a visita de tudo o que seja pontos de diversão, esta será de carácter lúdico já que todos comungamos de igual forma no que respeita a diversão e principalmente na constante que no une, a musica.
Durante 362 dias do ano, Wacken é um pequeno povoado no estado de Schleswig-Holstein, norte da Alemanha, habitada por cerca de 2000 pessoas. Durante três dias em Agosto esse número eleva-se para mais de 30 mil! Porquê? O “Wacken Open Air”, o mais conceituado festival de heavy metal da Europa, que anualmente atrai milhares de fãs do género de todo o mundo, sedentos por uma maratona de bandas, das mais diversas vertentes do metal. Encontra-se lá pessoas das mais diversas nacionalidades: alemães, italianos, espanhóis, portugueses, franceses, japoneses, americanos, mexicanos, brasileiros, etc.
A primeira edição ocorreu em 1990, quando era apenas um pequeno festival como tantos outros para bandas locais, com capacidade para pouco mais de 1000 pessoas. Os anos passaram, o evento foi crescendo, e em 1998 tornou-se o maior festival no calendário metálico europeu e teve mais de 70 bandas de toda a Europa, América do Norte e Austrália. Em 2006 o festival teve bilheteira esgotada pela primeira vez em 17 anos, o que confirma o facto do nome “Wacken Open Air” ter-se tornado sinónimo de heavy metal.
A estrutura do evento fornece aos headbangers tudo o que precisam: estacionamento, campismo (inclusive uma área para deficientes físicos), segurança, bombeiros, postos médicos, banheiros químicos e chuveiros, comidas e bebidas diversas, merchandise oficial do festival e das bandas, além de outros tipos de “souvenirs”. Há um campo de futebol para quem quiser jogar futebol e até um karaoke no “Headbanger’s Ballroom” e é diversão garantida para quem se arrisca com o microfone.
O Wacken Open Air também possui uma área para o “Meet and Greet”, onde são realizados, diariamente, encontros das bandas com seus fãs, que têm a oportunidade de pedir autógrafos, tirar fotos e falar com os seus músicos favoritos.
Há quatro palcos para shows no Wacken: o “Black Metal Stage”, o “True Metal Stage” e o “Party Stage” são os maiores, onde acontecem os principais espectáculos do festival, o “W.E.T. Stage” recebe as bandas mais underground e também o “Metal Battle”, uma competição onde bandas de diversos países concorrem a um contrato com a Armageddon Music, do grupo ICS-WOA. Todos os palcos têm concertos a partir das 11 horas da manhã e, dessa forma, há sempre uma banda para assistir-se, já que a programação é seguida à risca: quando um concerto termina, outro já está a iniciar, além daqueles que acontecem no mesmo horário e em palcos diferentes. Dessa forma, não faltam opções aos presentes.
Muitas bandas escolhem a ocasião de tocarem no Wacken para gravarem seus álbuns ao vivo. O Wacken é um festival muito estimado tanto por fãs quanto pelas bandas, e já foi palco para a reunião de muitas delas.
Em 1990, foram 1000 pessoas. Em 2006, foram 62 mil! Os números dizem-nos que o "Wacken Open Air" é um dos festivais mais aguardados pelo público, pelas bandas e pelos media especializados. O “Wacken Open Air” reúne o que há de melhor do heavy metal: grandes bandas (em quantidade e qualidade), óptimo público e acima de tudo, a diversão que todos procuram num festival.
O maior festival de heavy Metal português, o Steel Warriors' Rebellion Barroselas Metalfest, que este ano teve a sua 12ª edição, está-se a tornar um caso muito sério na rota dos mais conceituados festivais do género.
