Tuatha de Danann

Tuatha de Danannis a Brazillian band and comes from the city od Varginha, state od Minas Gerais, importante historical region because of the fight against the Imperial domination for Brazil’s indendence. The band’s first name was Pendragon, and they began their activities 1995 intending to do a different kind of music, with no comparasion in the scene, mixing Heavy Metal with the Celtic and Medieval Music. The first demo tape was released in 1996, named “The Last Pendragon”, and this work got very good reviews in the specialized media, mainly because of the unique sonority.

Afterward they changed the band nameTuatha de Danann, wich was perfect to represent ther thematic proposal. The name comes from the Celtic mythology; it mens “People of the Godess Danu”.

Additional notes
Formerly called "Pendragon". In their first demo, they used to play doom metal.

Tuatha de Danann is probably the only metal band in the world that had a midget who used to go onstage to do goofy things while they were playing. The midget dressed like a gnome in order to get into the mood for the gig. Nowadays this midget is not a frequent apperance but they still do hire people who have "special characteristics" (really tall people, etc) to be onstage.

Bruno Maia released a solo album (as Braia) in 2007 in the style of folk and progressive rock.
