"Rites of Winter" is an album that evokes the essence of human being as a primordial being that relates to nature, this was the feeling that came over me as I listened to this EP. From "Into the Woods" to "The eyes of the forest" we are attracted by the beauty of huge dark forests, stunning natural landscapes surrounded by a rainy and cloudy environment and where lightning fall and where we can hear thunders and wind and howling. We are led to a mental journey to a frightening atmosphere but it still attracts us as if the chants of the elements of nature were voices of mermaids who leave us defenseless against such beauty.
Submerged in the natural world without human presence, just the individual, our very own presence, we almost live a dejavu, we are immersed in solitude and share it with the mother of all beings (earth), we are led to the most ancient times of Man (our ancestors) and fight for survival against an overwhelming winter or against hungry predators and all the difficulties.
With the sound of a sad guitar who mourn to create the morbid atmosphere, or on the other hand the distortion of a heavy guitar that creates the forces of nature, Frostwork went too far with the execution of a very raw, very heavy and very melodic work, Dagon shows no other black metal influences, pure black metal, atmospheric black pure art that can make us engrossed and make us forget for a moment the reality.
