Arceye Premiere New Video ‘Brother Disarmed’

Following the release of their second album ‘At First Light’ earlier this month, UK death thrashers Arceye have today unleashed the official music video for ‘Brother Disarmed’ via Terrorizer Magazine, a track taken from the album. The video also features a guest appearance from Chris Clark of Xerath.

Watch ‘Brother Disarmed’ on Terrorizer.

’Brother Disarmed’ deals with “the old Betrayal/Revenge scenario” comments vocalist Al Llewellyn, “I try and write lyrics to our songs based on certain themes which I can relate to, or things I’ve had to deal with in the past. There is a deeper undercurrent to the song, but in a nutshell, that’s what I’ve written about on this song.”

Commenting further Al continues, “We selected ‘Brother Disarmed’ for one reason; it’s not your typical single (as it’s over the 5min mark), but the feedback we have had from our friends/fans/press on the song has been awesome, many quoting it as their favorite, or 'that song is badass'! Although it’s not the 'single' of the album we feel it’s a good representation of what we do and it’s a perfect song for the people who have not heard the album yet to get a good idea of what Arceye is all about!”

Talking more on the actual filming and concept Al states, “We had a lot of fun filming this one, I had the idea in mind of how to visually represent what the song was about by using a betrayal/double-cross situation. We tried to give it a Reservoir Dogs feel, as we are all huge film fans and feel badass wearing suits and sunglasses! Although we take our music very seriously, the video is to be taken with a pinch of salt as you will see in the ending!! Enjoy!!”

Arceye ‘At First Light’ Out Today

Following an exclusive pre-release full album stream with Terrorizer Magazine last week, today marks the launch of  'At First Light', the second album from Shrewsbury UK's Arceye via Hostile Media.

Media hype has reached boiling point over the last number of weeks as studio diaries, album teasers, the release of a lyric video for 'I Silently Wait' and the song's debut just days before on Team Rock Radio. "Midlands mob takes British Thrash back to the future" said Kerrang! “Arceye are not fucking around on their second release,” states Metal Hammer (UK), adding that they’re “a band on the rise.”

Death metal, thrash metal, a hint of prog and dynamically wonderful and meticulously crafted songs. From the blasts, downright brutality and sheer anger of 'I Silently Wait' to the evocative, grandeur of instrumental 'Sirius', Arceye cover the moshpits from front to back and left to right.

"We can't wait for everyone to finally get their hands on 'At First Light'!" comments vocalist Al Llewellyn. "We have been overwhelmed so far with the responce we've been getting from critics/press and are looking forward to hear what everyone else thinks! All pre-orders have been shipped and we look forward to you playing it fucking loud! Enjoy!!"

Pick up 'At First Light' at all good retailers from today!

ARCEYE: Interview; New video in the next days!

Will. Hello guys whats up?
Al Llewellyn. Hey! We are good ta, Thanks for the interview!

Will.  You guys have been in the death metal game since 2004, give me your story so far?
Al Llewellyn. Yeah we started the band back in 04, Back then it was just a mess around band really, we played a few local shows and released our First Self titled Demo in 2005.
We were called Arceye back then but we have had member changes along the way, its just me and Dave who have been in Arceye from the beginning.
In 2007 We released Our E.p 'As the ground Consumes you' Through A Wolf At Your Door Records.
In late 2009 We released 'The Divide Between Chaos and Order' This was the first time i tried my hand at vocals, as previous to that we had a different vocalist.
'TDBCAO' Really started the ball rolling for us, We had some great feedback, Had our music on the cover mounts of Metal Hammer and Terrorizer mags, Supported some awesome bands like Decapitated, Kataklysm, Finntroll, Played Bloodstock, Hammerfest and toured up and down the country.
After 'TDBCAO' was released, we had a couple of member changes (thats when Craig and Luke Joined the band) so we had to get them up to speed with the last album and we decided to extend the gigging cycle before we started to write the new album.
Which brings us to now, we will be releasing 'At First Light' on the 7th of August 2013.

Will.  What is the story with the band name, any special meaning behind it?
Al Llewellyn. When Dave and I left school we both started working at a garage where we used welders. Arceye is "a painful eye condition caused by damage to the cornea from ultraviolet radiation during arc welding"  No special meaning, we just got talking about it and thought it would be a cool name ha ha.

Will.  With four releases under your belt, how do you feel that you have progressed?
Al Llewellyn. Im really happy with this new album, i feel that musically we have made a massive progression, although if you listen through our back catalogue you can still hear its us.
Al Llewellyn - Vocals & Bass
Dave Roberts - Guitar & Vocals
Luke Durston - Guitar & Vocals
Craig Mackay - Drums & Samples
Will.  How has it been on the live front, any specially memorable gigs and what is on the horizon?
Al Llewellyn. We have played some really cool shows, the ones i listed above have my personal highlights, especially Bloodstock, we were on Last on the friday night and the tent was packed! it was awesome playing to that crowd, there is a video online of us playing the last track of the set 'Slaughtered' it was such a fun show.
We are currently working on a tour plan for this album once its released, but we are planning to play all over the shop to get it out there!

Will.  Great Britain has a well great metal heritage, how is the scene in Great Britain these days, and how does if feel to be apart of this great tradition?
Al Llewellyn. It feels good, there is a very big scene in the UK, i think everybody i know has been in a band at some point ha ha. Its nice that there is a lot of bands about, but it does make the competition fierce though.

Will.  After taking your new Cd At first light for a few spins, great Cd btw, I noticed that you influences are rather Swedish, but with a lot of personality, is this something conscious or has it just happened naturally?
Al Llewellyn. Thankyou, I think its something thats happened naturally really as (although we like the bands) were not influenced heavily by the Swedish Melodic Death sound, but i can see that some of it comes through in our music. We are all big fans of Opeth, but they don't have that typical Swedish sound. We all love all different types of metal, but collectively we more into bands like Pantera, Testament, Decapitated, Opeth, Cannibal Corpse, Strapping young lad and Metallica.

Will.  You guys are obviously stellar musicians, what are you guys musical background before joining Arceye?
Al Llewellyn. Dave and I have only really played in Arceye, but before joining Arceye Craig was in a band called 'The Hollow Earth Theory' who were doing really well for themselves, but Nathan moved over to Sweden to join Sonic Syndicate so we stole Craig at the same time. Luke has also played for a couple of bands previous to joining us, but Arceye is the first band he has had the chance to really sink his teeth into!

Will.  Can you give me a short run through about the topics you guys growl about??
Al Llewellyn. Lyrically I tend to write about life topics and feelings, i usually start with something i feel strongly about or something which has happened to me and expand it.
For example 'I Silently wait' is about the time we had our rehearsal rooms broken into and most of our instruments stolen. We have just released a Lyrical music video for that song, and its all about what i think of those "Humans".
The album had a running theme through it which ties in with the album name and artwork, At First light is about the Climb and the journey of being in the band, and what we have accomplished and where we want to be heading.

Will.  How do you guys view the problem or the help you get from illegal downloading, how do you choose to view this topic?
Al Llewellyn. Personally i don't do it, its not a moral thing for me but i like to have the physical copy of someones album in my hands. I feel as someone in a band, the package of a album isn't just in the music, its also in the artwork and lyrics so i like to get a cd and Look through the booklet as i listen to it, as you gain more of an understanding of the band and their music that way. I can see how its damaging for bands who rely solely on the music for their income, but if someone rips a copy of our alum to listen to it, in a way I'm happy that they enjoy what we do, ill just make them buy a t shirt, you can't download that!!

Will.  What can I find at the merch table at your gigs?
Al Llewellyn. We are currently getting new merch for when the album is released, we have Cd's and Shirts but will have new additions to the merch table once its released, so watch this space!

Will.  If you would rate the guys in the band pure upon looks, who would be at top, and which Spice Girl are you guys?
Al Llewellyn. Me, Obviously, ha and Luke's Baby Spice, Dave is Horny Spice and Craig is Asshole Spice.

Will.  Thanks for your time and if there is something you would like to add now is the time!
Al Llewellyn. No worrys, thankyou for the awesome review*!
Yeah we will be releasing another video in the run up to the album launch, so you can keep a eye on what we are up to on our Facebook etc and if you want to pre order the album, you can from our big cartel which is www.arceye.bigcartel.com, Cheers!!

Arceye's Top Class Full Length "At First Light" As An Album Of The Month!

What is on my plate today is a big slab of death/thrash from England, I'm currently digesting the band Arceye's second full length "At First Light" that will be released in August the 7th through Hostile Media out of the UK.  Upon my first spin of "At First Light" I was a bit skeptical, to be honest since their brand of melodic death/ thrash is way modern for my taste. You see I prefer my metal a tad more old school and not so melodic. But Arceye made me a fan after the first run through of the album. And they did this by avoiding the biggest pit falls that many of the more modern bands generally do. And what do I mean by this? well they do not sound like a blatant rip off of their Swedish heroes. And for this a I applaud them manically, because I think it is such a breeze of fresh air to hear a band trying to do their own thing in the confines of their style. Of course these guys do sound Swedish and if you are a fan of this kind of music, you will have heard this before, and you more or less know what you get.

But what sets these fine fellow apart from the millions of other bands out there is that their is a flair of black metal in their music. And what this flair is, well that is something I just can't really put my finger on. There is just something a bit more sinister in their riffing and melodies then what you generally get in this style of music. And I think this sets them apart a lot. Sure the music is filled with bouncy death thrash that gets the neck sore and fist raised high up on the air, so don't worry about that.

The musicianship is top notch on this one, be prepared to be schooled, bullied and beaten, for your own nancy-boy playing. Cause whatever chops you may have, these guys are better then you, just like Chuck Norries. I have always been a sucker for killer drumming and on this record the drumming is mental. Both really fast, precise and techy with the good taste of not overplaying it. Drummer Craig Mackay really shines on this one, having beats that shifts from precise break downs, groove, technical parts to high bpm blast beats. In my eyes we have a really well rounded drummer in this package. And the tempos ranges from slow, mid paced to Speedy Gonzales when he stats blasting away.

Al Llewellyn - Vocals & Bass
Dave Roberts - Guitar & Vocals
Luke Durston - Guitar & Vocals
Craig Mackay - Drums & Samples
One thing that I really dig on this album is the use of acoustic guitars, they are very tastefully done and every once in a while they come in sort of unexpected and makes for a great diversion. The album consists of ten tracks while three of these are acoustic instrumentals. And I must say that they are killer, masterfully played and hauntingly beautiful. My fav of the three is the song Sirus, it is a 6 min long epic, ok to be fair this track does contain more then acoustic guitars, and if I think about it I think the main guitars are clean electric guitars. This song is more of a progressive power ballad, but boy is it a killer track. The "chorus" guitar lead is maddeningly catchy and has stuck in my mind since the first time I heard it. Great stuff! And while on the subject on leads, I just must say good work my friends! I would assume that the guitarists in Arceye have spent many lonely hours in their chambers practicing their soloing, cause damn! Beautiful, fast and precise. Top Class.

Beauty meets the beast, and the beast this time around is the vocalist. Cause this guy got some seriously bestial lungs. A great voice that fits this kind of music like a hand in a evil glove covered with spikes. The melodies and vocal lines are expertly crafted and they are hokey and instantly gets your attention. Even thou the vocals and not that varied they never get boring or monotomus. And I think that this is quite the feat, since a lot of times when the vocals are similar all the time stuff gets boring fast. But not on this one. Again, Top class!!
What can I say about the production, well it is great to put it simple! Not much to write about it, I have no complaints at all. Ok some more cow bell would have been nice, but I think that goes for all modern albums. The drums have great punch and clarity, the guitars are meaty and crisp, the bass is deep and sounds heavy and the vocals well it is just right in the mix.

So if you are a melodic death thrash aficionado, do yourself a favor and get this album as soon as possible because this one will be with you for a long time, I think Arceye has set the standard with "At First Light" for how modern metal should sound, catchy and brutal at the same time.

Arceye Reveal Final ‘At First Light’ Behind The Scenes Video

UK death thrashers Arceye have posted the final installment of their studio blogs that take the viewer behind the scenes of 'At First Light', the bands upcoming new album.

View 'At First Light' Studio Blog Part 2 below.

States the band: “This is the final video which shows us setting up our own mobile Pro Tools setup to record guitars, bass and vocals. We recorded everything at a few locations including our practice room. Doing it this way meant that we could take our time and get the performances we wanted without the pressure of daily studio costs. When we had finished we sent it all off to Scott Atkins (Sylosis, Cradle Of Filth, Amon Amarth, Gama Bomb) at Grindstone Studios to re-amp, mix and master it.”

The video also shows the artwork process that was undertaken by the bands drummer Craig Mackay. “Craig painted the front cover and all of the portraits. These were then scanned into the computer and Craig finished off the final artwork layouts and text. Even though this was a fairly long process we always wanted to put together a great album package, which included the artwork as well as the music within. We believe we have achieved this and are very proud of the finished product. We hope everyone else agrees.”

“The album artwork, title and first track tie in together as we wanted this to be our opening statement, with the theme running through the album. The idea behind the name/artwork is that the wolf climbing the mountain is always hungrier than the wolf on top. We feel we have gone through a rebirth as a band and this album is all about the climb to get us on to the next run of the ladder.

Arceye Post 'At First Light' Studio Blog Part 1

UK death thrashers Arceye have posted part 1 of a 2 part studio blog which takes the viewer behind the scenes of 'At First Light', the bands upcoming new album.

Part 1 of the blog shows footage of drums being tracked at Foel Studios in Wales with renowned producer Chris Fielding (Napalm Death, Cerebral Bore, Darkest Era). "We had previously mixed the first album 'The Divide Between Chaos & Order' there and enjoyed working with the engineer Chris Fielding so it was a good option to use this time round", states drummer Craig Mackay. "We also know a lot of bands (Xerath, Envy Of The State, etc.) who have used the same studio and have gotten some great results."

‘At First Light’ is the second full length from Arceye and will be released worldwide on August 7th via Hostile Media. Commenting on the album the band said: “This album we feel we have really trimmed the fat on our songwriting and made it the best it could be! If we didn’t think that it kicked ass it didn’t make the cut! We also stepped up the production value and worked with Scott Atkins (Sylosis, Cradle Of Filth, Amon Amarth, Gama Bomb) on the mix and master. The meaning of ‘At First Light’ is a representation of where we felt we were as a band when we were writing the album. Since our last release we have gained two new members, both with a writing influence and we’ve developed more of a vision of the music we wanted to play.” ‘At First Light’ is the follow up to Arceye’s highly acclaimed debut album ‘The Divide Between Chaos & Order’ which saw the band appear in pages of Terrorizer and Metal Hammer and was hailed as “hard-hitting” and “balls out thrash.”
