Carpathian Forest: Live Performance from PartySan 2013 Available!

Norwegian Black Metal band Carpathian Forest has posted a live video for the song "Return of the Freezing Winds" filmed at PartySan 2013. The song appeared at debut demo self released intitled "Bloodlust and Perversion" from 1992. Carpathian Forest Drummer Sidelined Due To Post-Op Problems

Norwegian Black Metallers CARPATHIAN FOREST announced today that drummer Anders Kobro will be sitting out the band’s upcoming shows due to post-op problems that have occurred following full hip replacement surgery earlier this year.  His recovery has been much slower than expected, and ongoing problems, which may even require further surgery, have had a marked effect on his playing recently.  With a confirmed schedule that includes Hellfest, Party.San, Meh Suff and Brutal Assault, and more to be announced, drummer Jonathan Alejandro Perez will step in, allowing Kobro time to recover and get back on form.

Commenting on the situation, guitarist Tchort said:  “It was pretty obvious to everyone, band and fans alike, that Kobro’s playing since his operation has not been up to his usual high standards. But more worrying was the fact that the heavy schedule of rehearsing, live performances and travelling was actually hindering his recovery.  CARPATHIAN FOREST has had the same lineup for so many years that it’s a bit of a shock to the system to think that he won’t be with us for the time being, but Jonathan is a skilled and experienced drummer and we have no doubts that he is more than up to the job”.

Ironically, the band had to cancel its recent appearance at the Maryland Deathfest, not because of Kobro’s health, but because the embassy didn’t return his passport in time for him to fly out, even though all the visas had been requested at the same time and guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor and bassist Vrangsinn received theirs in plenty of time.  “There has been much speculation and rumour about why CARPATHIAN FOREST had to pull out of MDF but there really isn’t anything sinister about it at all, just an excess of bureaucratic red tape” said Tchort.  “Kobro’s passport was delayed in the system, and with Nattefrost they requested a lot of additional documentation which is not normally required, and which would have taken months to obtain.   We were, in any event, going to play as a four piece, and we waited for Kobro’s passport until the very last possible moment.  We have since found out that the door is still very much open to granting Nattefrost a visa in the future so we can look forward to finally being able to play in front of our US fans”.

Flashback: 1992 Carpathian Forest`s Bloodlust and Perversion

During the 1980s, black metal was only a loose term used to describe the few extreme metal bands who shared a unique style such as demonic growls, high-pitched guitar tones, raw recording, anti-Christianity and Satanic lyrics, although most of the “first wave” bands  used Satanism as a way to shock values.

Norway was the perfect place to embrace the darkness of such a style; the early Norwegian black metal scene was a subculture during the early 1990´s based around heavy music and seen by many as a cult- “The Black Circle”. This “cult” was formed essentially by young people and they gathered at the record shop Helvete (“Hell”) in Oslo. For becoming a cult the black metal scene in Norway began to be a target of controversy due to the strong anti-Christian beliefs, evil lyrics and due to some events that marked the “fight” against Christian religion like burning churches, but that’s a matter I won’t discuss.

Black metal was growing stronger in Norway and during 1990-1992, Norwegian artists influenced by the “first wave” of black metal began to construct a new style of playing and instead of playing two and three strings powerchords, they used all the strings and more notes to play full chords. Visually, the satanic themes of their songs was transpired by corpsepaint, and the concerts were full of a dark atmosphere, the music was the fuel to the satanic ritual in stage. This was the beginning of a new black metal style and the beginning of the “second wave” of this music movement that turned out to be the pure Norwegian black metal.

It was during that time that Carpathian Forest was born with origin in Jaeren, Rogaland, Kristiansand, previously known as “Enthrone”, and formed by Roger Rasmussen (Nattefrost/Lord Nosferatu) and Nordavind (Lord Karnstein) in December 1990 being one the first bands to step in the Norwegian black metal scene. They emerged seriously in 1992 with the self-release of their second demo “Bloodlust and Perversion” with Nattefrost on vocals, keyboards and bass, Nordavind with the guitars, bass and keyboards and Lord Blackmangler on drums. Influenced by “nasty, ugly, grim and repulsive shit” with a Satanic, anti-Christian, Sadomasochism and evil themed message Carpathian Forest unleashed hell in a dark culture and entered in the story of the Norwegian black metal with pure evil.

Carpathian Forest second demo “Bloodlust and Perversion” is a five track work of really heavy ambiance and dark atmosphere, composed with an instrumental intro and an instrumental outro of evil melodies with the obscure feeling inherent in black metal and with three more songs with a very raw sound that brings the old school to its splendor and fits perfectly the underground movement of that time, in other words “Bloodlust and Perversion” is the perfect example of Norwegian black metal with “shrieked” vocals, simple and heavy riffs, a certain dark melodic type of extreme music with a devilish environment.

CARPATHIAN FOREST FRONTMAN NATTEFROST SPEAKS OUT ABOUT HIS PAST AND THE BAND’S FUTURE

It can’t have escaped the attention of any keen fan or observer of the Black Metal scene that, following a few years of relative inactivity, iconic Norwegians CARPATHIAN FOREST have this year once again begun performing live and have already announced some festival appearances for 2013.

Rumours as to why the band had gone to ground, and indeed, if there was even any band left at all, have been rife.  Now, however, an official statement issued by founder Nattefrost, has succinctly made clear the reasons for CARPATHIAN FOREST’s absence from the scene and has once and for all laid to rest any speculation about the band’s future.   Quoting the title of the band’s fifth album, the frontman candidly stated:  “I have more or less been off the road and caught in a downward spiral for nearly a decade.  Now clean and rehabilitated, I have been living in Telemark for more than a year – a family man and father.  And once again I am working on music.  Communication and chemistry within CARPATHIAN FOREST have never been better so “Fuck You All!!!”

The lineup, which remains unchanged from when the band was active, consists of of Nattefrost on vocals, Tchort and BloodPervertor on guitars, Vrangsinn on bass and Kobro on drums, and the members have been regularly rehearsing together not just for the live appearances, but also in preparation for recording new material, of which there is plenty according to Nattefrost.  The band has also just signed with the UK-based Mythology Agency for all European appearances, and anyone wishing to book the band should contact mark@mythology-live.com.  Booking outside of Europe will continue to be handled by the band’s management for the time being, and enquiries should be sent to patriciathomas@btinternet.com

Mythical Black Metallers CARPATHIAN FOREST will play live at CARPATHIAN ALLIANCE METAL FESTIVAL open air 2012 "Carpathian Mountains", The event will take place in Ukraine, Lviv region, Volosianka vlg., "Zakhar Berkut" on August 10/11, 2012

CARPATHIAN ALLIANCE METAL FESTIVAL - Extreme music festival on the slopes of the Carpathians. It will take place at Vysokyi Verkh mount, the one of the most amazing peaks of the Ukrainian Carpathians. This peak is situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level.

The event. will be located in the tourist complex "Zakhar Berkut", which is located 6 km. from well-known village Slavske which operates the most extensive Carpathians 2800m chair-lift up. Using this chair-lift visitors of the festival will be able to get to Vysokyi Verkh.

"The Forest" in retrospective

The year was 1980, Another One Bites The Dust of The Queen was a success around the world, Call Me of the Blondie entered to the cinema with American Gigolo with the novice actor Richard Gere and Pink Floyd releases the  masterpiece Another Brick In The Wall Part II.

The Cure an young English Gothic rock band formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976 releases "The Forest"  a single  on March 28, 1980 as the only single from their second album Seventeen Seconds. It was their first chart single in the UK, reaching #31; the song was also a hit in the Netherlands, reaching #26. It was also their first single to be released on the 12" single format, which was able to feature the un-edited album version. The 7" single version omits the initial guitar and keyboard introduction, removes a few bars between verses and fades out part way through the guitar solo ending, making it approximately two minutes shorter. Versions subsequently released on various compilations such as Standing on a Beach as the "single" version vary slightly from the 7" single edit in that they restore the guitar solo ending to its full length.

The lyrics tell a vague story about a man looking for a girl in a forest. He hears her calling for him, and as he chases her, he suddenly stops and realizes that he is lost and that the girl is not there. 

In the 90's Black Metal bands born like mushrooms and a new band begins to emerge to the market, the name? Carpathian Forest (previously known as "The Childmolesters", then "Enthrone") emerged with the demo tape "Bloodlust and Perversion" in 1992. In 1993 the band released a second demo: Journey Through the Cold Moors of Svarttjern. The following year, Forest signed to Avantgarde Music and recorded their first EP, Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods in 1995, followed by the debut album Black Shining Leather in 1998. 18 years later, against all expectations for a black metal band "Black Shining Leather" close with the track "The Forest" with the freshness of the original ... To the image of the mythical Carpathian Forest.
