We also crafted the album to flow as a whole, symbolizing the progression of an evening into night, and then into dawn; as if the songs couldn't exist without one another. And, yes, we’re still bringing the speed and brutality."

About.com called the record, "sometimes extreme, sometimes delicate and usually compelling," while Blabbermouth noted: “DREAMING DEADare on; it's easy to see world domination in their future.” Metal Maniacs agreed calling Within One, "...a smattering of classic US DM stylings and high-velocity thrash, set the tune of Schall's scathing vocals and surprisingly agile guitar runs."
