KILLING JOKE: Exclusive Track Premiere, North American Tour To Commence Next Month

In celebration of their soon-to-be-released three-disc anthology and long anticipated North American tour, Decibel Magazine is offering up a rare stream of KILLING JOKE’s “Timewave” demo! Previously unreleased, the track was recorded during the Absolute Dissent studio sessions and comes by way of The Singles Collection 1979-2012.

Capturing KILLING JOKE’s enormous ever-evolving story with a series of dark, apocalyptic songs that have successfully combined disco, funk and shamanic wisdom with the dark side of the punk rock fall-out, The Singles Collection 1979-2012 offers up thirty-three career-spanning singles over two CDs with an additional third disc of rarities, including previously unreleased studio tracks. The three-CD version will be limited in number, reverting to two CDs containing the singles tracks. The Singles Collection 1979-2012 is set for release via Spinefarm/Universal on May 14, 2013 with the digital version dropping two weeks prior on April 30th.

Killing Joke`s MMXII “New Age Sound to a New Age Era”

A new time has come, a new age era and Killing Joke wants you to arouse with their new album “MMXII” that is going to be released October 30, on Spinefarm Records.

The name of the album says it all, 2012 is the year we are living, the present, time runs out, the days pass running with thousands of occurrences, information, news,  everything seems smaller in such a big planet, Humans busy walking from one side to another focused on their tasks, their objectives and learn, construct, develop, proliferate more and more. Killing Joke portray with extraordinary dark and deep beauty this organized chaos, this insanity to which we are accustomed and which is normal in our daily life.

Killing Joke is and always was a positive force full of decadent energy, but this new work goes beyond that energy, “MMXII” is alluring, lustful, addictive, a mating ritual between music and life extinction as we know it. Jaz Coleman, Geordie, Youth and Big Paul pulled out a serious heavy and dark sound with their fast rhythm and new age/alternative music which contemplates their roots but they brought us something very new in the line of metal and dance, a very raw sound with lots of melody that transpires our futuristic era.

The album speaks for itself, ten tracks that mirror many thoughts focused on political, anti-capitalist and new-idealistic visions. The age of flux, the end of times in many calendars, like in the Mayas calendar that shows the end of the world this year, and scientific evidence of natural disasters and “polar shift”, the alteration in earth’s magnetic field, will bring this new age- Age of Aquarius. Jaz Coleman says this age is about “acting in a coordinated manner”, “restoring the biosphere”, “well being opposed to economic-growth”, “partnership and co-creation with fellows Human beings”. This is a shout against the current system, against the way we live today, against politics and huge corporations; we really need a change, an age of flux that brings a time where an “elite can be an intellectual powerhouse and not international bankers”.

To hear “MMXII” is to dive in a sea of intellectual thoughts, beliefs, in a cluster of interesting themes that concern us all with extreme well played, complex, astonishing and multi-layered music which elevates the feeling of living in a precarious way but that gives a hope in the change, a positive enlightenment in this age of flux. This is really a masterpiece, 49:23 minutes of a tremendous experience, a work that surpasses any expectation, a new age sound to a new age era.

October 30, 2012 sees the release of KILLING JOKE’s new album, MMXII, on Spinefarm Records.

2012 is the perfect year for KILLING JOKE to be releasing an album that is as dense and dark as the surrounding swirls of madness in the world. At a time when the news is on fast-forward and the planet seems to be descending into lunacy, who better than KILLING JOKE to reflect such a sentiment?

MMXII’s 11 tracks are an avalanche of sound -- empowering whilst jolting you awake. They are as fascinating as chatting with Coleman, as he talks of future humans living forever but with no emotions, and of the Age Of Aquarius and the cycles of time, the shift in the earth’s electro-magnetic field, the end of extreme capitalism, the Arab Spring and how his trips to Cairo to record music have added to his belief that when Cairo falls everywhere else follows… MMXII is possibly KILLING JOKE’s best album ever; a dense and multi-layered work. The songs are great washes of sound – a death disco with huge slabs of guitar that soundtracks these dangerous times. It’s an end-of-time album that somehow finds moments of optimism in the downward swirl of the planet. Finding hope in the apocalypse, this album just could be their masterpiece. 

The album’s key is the end of times, an age of flux, a shift in consciousness. Coleman comments: “I can’t see the point contemplating extreme life extinction -- it’s good for nothing. It’s nihilism in the absolute even considering it.”

This kind of thinking sets the tone for this powerful record, with 2012 and the state of flux the key issue. “It’s in many different calendars – the great unveiling, the sky and the earth coming together. It’s a significant date. Everything is speeding up. It’s not just our minds shrinking. We are heading towards the Eschaton and no-one really knows what’s going to happen.”

The album reflects this dark vision, but Coleman sees the great change in a more positive light -- the dawning of the Age Of Aquarius. “All the remote viewers I know, myself included, cannot penetrate beyond. This year is about getting our collective dreams in order, restoring the biosphere, the idea of well-being as opposed to economic growth, the idea of partnership and co-creation with fellow human beings, moving away from national boundaries and more towards what Schiller and Beethoven were saying in some of their work.”

The album’s themes are political, anti-capitalist and forward-looking. “If we can concentrate on what it can be, the dream of clean streams, of re-forestation, of permaculture, of disengaging all the banks -- identifying all the majority shareholders of the top 100 corporations and dismantling them. If we start dreaming of a fairer system and defining what an elite should be -- an intellectual powerhouse and not international bankers.”

Record Marks Band's First Full-length With Original Lineup In Over 25 Years

With a reputation forged in fire, brimstone and magic, KILLING JOKE have long been one of rock’s most iconic and influential outfits. Now, 30 years since first bonding in blood, the original lineup of Jaz Coleman (vocals), Geordie (guitar), Youth (bass) and Paul Ferguson (drums) are set to release their 13th studio album – the first fruits of a new worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records.

Set for release on November 16, 2010, Absolute Dissent found the aforementioned musicians sharing studio space for the first time in 27 years. Formed in London, England, in October 1978, KILLING JOKE was the brainchild of classically trained musician and vocalist Jeremy "Jaz" Coleman and drummer "Big" Paul Ferguson, who eagerly recruited two like-minded comrades in the form of guitarist Kevin "Geordie" Walker and bassist Martin "Youth" Glover and set about establishing a brand new and highly idiosyncratic manifesto for reinventing the rock ‘n’ roll wheel. Coming to life during what would become known as the "post-punk" era, KILLING JOKE were never

willing to conform to the artistic restrictions of any particular scene or genre. Instead, they took a vast and bewildering array of influences and experience, and combined them to create something entirely unique and utterly timely that still stands up today.

Over the years, the band members have chosen to develop their talents in a variety of ways: Triple Grammy winner Jaz Coleman, for instance, has established an international reputation working with some of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, while Martin "Youth" Glover has become one of the UK’s most celebrated producers, supervising albums from the Verve and Primal Scream among many others, as well as achieving major success as one half of highly-regarded duo, The Orb.

Covered by Metallica, Foo Fighters and so many others, KILLING JOKE’s apocalyptic post punk/industrial vision continues to draw praise from such high-profile supporters as Jimmy Page and Billy Corgan, and the band’s considerable musical legacy can be heard in the works of Nirvana, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails and the like – artists whose rise to fame never saw them cutting ties with the underground/alternative scene.
