WODENSTHRONE: "Curse" NEW ALBUM

UK black metallers WODENSTHRONE have announced they will release their new album named Curse, on May 14th via Plastic Head/Candlelight Records. 

"Now, as Spring takes hold of a troubled world in 2012, Wodensthrone return with Curse, an album that transcends the impermanence of individual nations and cultures to address timeless, universal questions of spirituality and freedom. Curse explores man-kinds most inherent and profound spiritual flaw; the instinct to lay the responsibility of our fates at the feet of imagined Gods, to submit without question to the cultural machinery religious, political, social, economical that imposes systems of power and control to exploit, enthrall, corrupt and oppress."

New Corrosion of Conformity album! - Pre-Order details

Candlelight Records confirms February 27th as the European release date for the self-titled new album from Corrosion of Conformity. Recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles, the album was produced by the band in cooperation with long-time collaborator John Custer. It was mixed by John Lousteau (Foo Fighters) and features artwork by Seldon Hunt (Melvins, High On Fire). The album will be available on standard cd, deluxe digipak, and two exclusive vinyl formats.

Featuring the esteemed Animosity line-up of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woody Weatherman, and drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin, the album’s release closes a six year recording gap and completes over a year of concentrated writing and recording for the band. Reflecting on the past year and the album’s recording process, Mike Dean notes, ”we tracked the songs at Studio 606 then headed for Europe, toured the US, and returned to Europe. We then did some vocals at home in North Carolina but not where we originally planned; the studio was flattened by a system of spring tornadoes. We made our way back to 606 about seven months later and mixed twelve songs in ten days. The whole time we were out there, we were living in the onion fields of Ventura County and had to drive over the Santa Susana Pass to the San Fernando Valley every day. That was some fuel intensive time to reflect. As a whole, the album was an inspired and efficient collaboration. John Custer told me he thought we were all working together as one organism; which is an apt description.”

Corrosion of Conformity features eleven new songs with the deluxe digipak and vinyl formats including two additional songs. Vinyl collectors will want to seek out both formats of the record; the European configuration confirmed as a double 180-gram clear vinyl and the American version featuring a single 180-gram black-and-white splatter vinyl with a limited 7-inch which will include the album’s bonus songs. Both versions will feature a gatefold sleeve.

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder Signs To Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of thrashers Rumpelstiltskin Grinder . The Philadelphia-based band is already working on their new album, titled Ghostmaker, expected for release early spring 2012. The four-piece tested some of their new material via a string of regional shows this past weekend and expect to tour in support of the album once released.

Guitarist Ryan Moll comments, “we are psyched to be on Candlelight.” Sharing details about the ongoing recording he notes, “Right now we are in the studio working on our third and most intense release to date. This album promises to be the fastest, darkest, most relentless and insane album yet. It will contain some of the most bone-crushing, graveyard stomping, Frankenstein/Dracula/Wolfman hate-fuck riffage written thus far.”

Guitarist Matt Moore adds, “Our wretched new masterpiece will be finished soon enough. Each song has its own distinct and strange aura of speed, darkness, brute strength, violence, cunning, and power. Like any respectable band, we have raised the bar and taken on musical and lyrical concepts that would drive commoners insane. Faster. Louder. Darker. Crazier.”

Formed in 2002, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder dropped several underground releases, including a split 7" inch and a live album, before signing with Relapse for their studio debut, Buried In the Front Yard, released October 2005. Blabbermouth called the record “a dynamic thrash album with roots in crossover, a musically talented cast, and loads of tongue-in-cheek cleverness.” The band would keep busy with additional split recordings, Speed N Spikes Vol. II (2008) and Urine Trouble / Nothing Defeats the Skull (2008) before getting back in to the studio for their second full length, Living for Death; Destroying the Rest also released by Relapse January 2009. The band supported Absu for a 22-date US/Canadian tour in April 2009, a tour with Deceased in 2010, and have been performing regionally since.

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder currently features guitarist/vocalist Matt Moore, bassist/vocalist Shawn Riley, drummer Pat Battaglia, and guitarist Ryan Moll.

Wodensthrone have just finished recording their second album

English Heathen Black Metal band Wodensthrone have just finished recording their second album, tentatively entitled ‘Curse’, at The Priory Recording Studios in Sutton Coldfield, England, with Greg Chandler (founding member/guitarist/vocalist from UK doom horde Esoteric) at the helm engineering, producing, and mixing this new full length. The much-anticipated follow up to debut album Loss features eight tracks which demonstrate what the band are calling their darkest, most intense, yet diverse offering thus far. Scheduled for an early 2012 release, the album will be Wodensthrone’s first worldwide release on Candlelight Records since their signing with the infamous label in 2010. This record will also mark a new beginning for the band vocally, as founding member Brunwulf recently departed the clan amicably, which made way for guitarists Wildeþrýð and Rædwalh to take over all vocal duties.

Speaking on behalf of the band, guitarist and vocalist Rædwalh states, ‘The departure of Brunwulf presented us with an opportunity to either find a suitable replacement, or for Wildeþrýð and I to take on the responsibility ourselves. After much thought we decided to keep the band as a five piece, as it would be hard to replace our brother Brunwulf, whose vocals were very distinctive and integral to our sound, but also because we felt no need to replace him with any new blood since the chemistry in the band feels just right at the moment. This sophomore recording will also feature Arfæst on synths, who has been a part of our brotherhood and live rituals since 2009. He has been an integral part of the writing process for this new record, musically and lyrically. So this marks a new chapter for the clan in more ways than one. We displayed passion and total dedication to the writing and recording of this opus and we look forward to unleashing the Curse early next year. Wæs þu hæl!'

1349 to release DVD

1349 are set to release their first ever live DVD “HELLVETIA FIRE - THE OFFICIAL 1349 BOOTLEG” on the 24th of October on Candlelight Records Filmed Live at Bikini Test La chaux De Fonds Switzerland 2005 and featuring a special live appearance from Tom G Warrior (Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Tryptikon).

1349 rose from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997, counting Ravn (vocals & drums), Tjalve (guitars), Seidemann (bass) and Balfori (guitars). Balfori quit shortly after due to musical divergence. In early '99 the band found Archaon whose speed and technique took their music to a new level of intensity and brutality. Come spring 2000, 1349 decided to record a new promo showcasing the new material, and Frost of Satyricon was asked to lay down the drum tracks to get the speed required. Holycaust Records offered them a deal and released the new promo as an eponymous MCD. By early 2001, the band felt they had enough killer songs for a full-length album – “Liberation”. Hearing this material, Frost was so impressed that he asked to join and became a permanent member of the band. Recorded and mixed at Gordon Studios, Liberation blended old school soundscapes with warp-speed hysteria. 1349 signed with Candlelight Records in 2003 and released their debut full-length album in april 2003, then marched unstoppably forwards with the following releases “Beyond the Apocalypse” in 2004 and “Hellfire” in 2005.

In between recordings 1349 spent a lot of time on the road and have over the years toured with Celtic Frost, Gorgoroth and Carcass, to name a few, as well as performing at festivals like Wacken, Summer Breeze, Hellfest and SXSW. Guitarist and founding member Tjalve left in 2006 to focus his musical efforts on his band Pantheon I. Four years after the release of “Hellfire”, 1349 decided to unleash a quite different monster upon the unsuspecting masses and “Revelations of the Black Flame” saw 1349 return to Studio Studio Nyhagen with Tom G. Warrior co-mixing the album along with Ravn. Released May 25th 2009 on Candlelight Records, Revelations... saw 1349 explore the slower, darker and more ambient side of black metal, while still retaining the spirit of aural hellfire. An even deeper darkness was added to the sphere of 1349...it became evident that from here, it was gonna get scary. 2010 was a year when 1349 really started to flex muscles, 1349 unleashed their latest aural assault DEMONOIR, filled to the brim with abyssic darkness and hellish energy. This release - by far their most brutal to this date - showed that the band had gotten capable at blending a deeper and more sinister darkness with extreme intensity and venomous aggression, another proof of the band’s innovative take on Black Metal.

The year also saw 1349 playing some one-off European shows, coming to Finland for the first time, as well as touring the US with Cannibal Corpse and later co-headlining with Triptykon. Several high-profile festivals such as Wacken and Summer Breeze were once again given a lethal dose of Hellfire. 2011 brings 1349 to places dark and strange; be warned, and be ready.

UK D-beat Death Metallers The Rotted have released a digital single for 'Apathy In The UK' which also features a bonus Motorhead cover.

'Apathy In The UK' is a stand alone track on the new album and different from what we've done before. We chose it as the single because it is a FUCK YOU to all the scencesters, youtube warriors, corporate venues and illegal downloaders that having been ruining metal for the last few years. The music is a brutal and catchy piece of old school UK Grind and the the lyrics talk about what makes Metal great! The gigs and festivals, DIY fanzines, good bands, decent venues and we even reference some '90s London Metal clubs like 'Braindead' and 'The Devils Church'. The places that Dissection, At The Gates, Anathema, Cradle Of Filth, Primordial, Akercocke and Bal Sagoth played some of their first UK shows and where we as musicians first cut our teeth.

Ben's lyrics say it better than I can... "Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash or Punk, Hardcore, Grindcore, Doom or Sludge, To us it was one, DIY was law, It was the underground, And we supported it proud!"

In an ideal world we would have loved to release this on coloured vinyl, or limited edition gatefold sleeve or flexi disc but sadly those days are gone. Our label did that thing where they hold their hand in the air and rub their thumb against their index and middle finger, which we've been told is management speak for "too expensive". So its gonna be digital only, but there is exclusive artwork to download and not only do you get the cost of the single knocked off the album when its released you also get our cover of Motorhead's 'Iron Fist' (taken from the Anarchogram EP) for free too!

'Apathy In the UK' is a call to arms, it's for everyone out there that wants to keep Metal alive! Get off Youtubby, Faceache and Myspazz.
