SURGEON: Philly-Based Epic Metal Unit Confirms November Mini-Tour

Philly's epic metal outfit, SURGEON, has confirmed an upcoming Fall tour in support of their second full-length release, Chemical Reign.

On November 14th, SURGEON will traverse south to converge with their cohorts in Midnight Eye for the week-long run, kicking the tour off in Washington, DC that evening supporting the mighty Absu. The following six nights will see the two bands rolling through Richmond, Harrisonburg, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Boston where the tour comes to an end on November 20th.

SURGEON's output ventures into foreign territory for most by-the-books classical and fusion acts under the progressive metal umbrella. Perhaps simply "epic metal" is a more defining tag, as the talented crew seamlessly blends a variety of rugged post-death and post-doom elements into their infectious songcraft. They self-released their sophomore album, Chemical Reign -- the record produced by the band and Kevin Antreassian (Dillinger Escape Plan, Mike Portnoy, Russell Allen of Symphony X) at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey -- in May of this year to a parade of critical acclaim.

Listen to several tracks from Chemical Reign and more from SURGEON via their Bandcamp page.

SURGEON streams new track; Street Date And Release Show Confirmed

As the second full-length from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based metal outfit SURGEON nears its triumphant release onto public ears this Spring, today the bands releases another brand new track from the opus, entitled Chemical Reign.

While SURGEON’s output may be simply classified as “progressive metal” to some, the band ventures into foreign territory for most by-the-books classical and fusion acts of the progressive metal umbrella. Perhaps simply “epic metal” is a more defining tag, as the talented crew seamlessly blends a variety of rugged post-death and post-doom elements into their craft, infectiously creating a sound all their own, but undoubtedly in the vein of notable bands including Pharaoh, Atlantean Kodex and Slough Feg.

Today Brave Words have posted an exclusive listen to the title track to SURGEON’s new album... unleash “Chemical Reign”.

The band also previously released the album’s second track “Watching You,” available via their official Soundcloud.

Additionally, SURGEON has confirmed the official release date of Chemical Reign as May 19th, the same day the band will perform a local record release show for the album at Philly hotspot Johnny Brenda’s, alongside Ominous Black, Swarm of Arrows, and Skeleton Hands.

SURGEON Chemical Reign Record Release Show:
5/19/2013 Johnny Brenda’s - Philadelphia, PA w/ Ominous Black, Swarm of Arrows, Skeleton Hands

A shockingly unknown band outside of the local scene until now, SURGEON propels an organic, flowing style of progressive metal with bold rock buildups, which also merges into the realms of epic, classic doom. Comprised of vocalist/bassist Sean Bolton, lead guitarist Lydia Giordano and drummer Ruston Grosse (ex-Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, ex-Woe, Master tour drummer), the band recorded their debut album Angry Guest at Electrical Audio in Chicago by Steve Albini, self-releasing it onto the masses in 2008. SURGEON’s alloy of metals shines more than ever on the band’s ambitious second opus, Chemical Reign. Boasting nearly fifty minutes of material recorded with Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (Mike Portnoy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Russell Allen of Symphony X), Antreassian was able to capture the band’s live dynamics, the band unlocking new potentials only grazed upon before during previous recording sessions. SURGEON will be self-releasing Chemical Reign on May 19th, 2013 digitally and on CD.

SURGEON: Philadelphia Prog Metal Trio Prepares To Release Sophomore Album

Amidst the plethora of extreme punk, hardcore and metal acts to come from within the underbelly of Philadelphia’s thriving music scene comes a bold new name to the progressive metal genre, in the form of SURGEON.

Their energy and attitude carries through both in the studio as well as on-stage, a feature that has helped the three seasoned musicians become known across the Philadelphia region, with SURGEON having shared the stage with Stinking Lizaveta, Howl, Black Cobra and others.

Crafting each song as an individual piece of art, blending their infectious hooks with intricate melodies SURGEON’s alloy of metals shines more than ever on the band’s ambitious second opus, Chemical Reign. Boasting nearly fifty minutes of material recorded with Kevin Antreassian at Backroom Studios in Rockaway, New Jersey (Mike Portnoy, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Russell Allen of Symphony X), Antreassian was able to capture the band’s live dynamics, the band unlocking new potentials only grazed upon before during previous recording sessions. SURGEON will be self-releasing Chemical Reign on May 19th, 2013 digitally and on CD, the massive album undoubtedly something fans of Pharaoh, Atlantean Kodex, Slough Feg and early Iron Maiden should be proud to broadcast.
