Croatians SUBSCALE Interviewed

Subscale - metal/groove/progressive/electronic band from Croatia. Since their debut album “The Last Submission” came out this year, we decided to have a little chat with this perspective band, who has a bright future ahead.

The Last Submission

Tena:
Hello guys, first I would like to thank you for having an interview with HeavyHardMetalmania! For those who are unfamiliar with the band, we present you Subscale from Croatia.
For starters, can you tell us something about the band members and the band in general?
Subscale:
Well, there are a lot of us…seven to be exact. Let's go from the top, Mario and Jay are the bands founding members and both play rhythm guitar. Karlo Horvat is the vocalist and Igor is our DJ.  Early this year we complete the line up with Ivan on bass, Andreas on lead guitar and Goran on drums.
And that’s about it hahaha!

Tena:
The EP "Fictional Constructs" was released in 2012. Who was the main creator of lyrics and music or are you all equally involved in the writing process?
Subscale:
The EP was just a short look into the album. All the songs on it are featured on the album too and were written by Jay, Mario and Hrvoje (ex- lead guitarist). The lyrics are all done by Jay and Mario.

Tena:
What is the idea behind the name Subscale? Does is have some hidden, deeper meaning or was it just a random word?
Subscale:
Well, beside the fact that it sounds good – it’s actually a part of a CPU – a part of a processor. At the same time it describes something that is not in a scale, it’s somewhere beneath, so that is what it stands for.

Tena:
How would you describe in 3 words the music you make/play?
Subscale:
WORST MUSIC EVER – just kidding J

Tena:
Is it hard to be a musician in such an alternative band in small country like Croatia? Since all of your lyrics are in English, I suppose you are aiming at the audience outside your borders?
Subscale:
Well, music sounds better to our ears when it’s sung in English. Probably because all the artists we like also sing in English, there is no wisdom to it. It just feels natural to us.

Tena:
Do you have some live shows coming in near future, since this year you released your debut album „The Last Submission „?
Subscale:
Well, we already had a few shows this year and there are some upcoming shows planned.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook and other social media sites to keep up to date with all the info.

Tena:
What band/s influences you the most, if any?
Subscale:
Far too many…as you can hear, there are technical parts, melodic parts, electronic parts, cleans, samples, quotes…anything and everything influences our music. We like a lot of groovy metal bands and a lot of rap acts. We basically listen to anything that catches our attention.

Tena:
You have quite many people in band. Does it make it easier or harder for all of you to agree what kind of music you (will) make?
Subscale:
It’s hard enough when the 2 of us do it, so yeah, it can bring problems to the table. But the writing process is unique for each song, so it’s hard to tell. We are currently doing fine, so we don’t want to jinx it.

Tena:
Where or how do you see yourselves, as a band, in 5 years from now?
Subscale:
We would like to have toured around Europe at least. It’s not a high goal to some, but to get to do that is an achievement to us. We are all in this for some time now, with our past bands we have played a lot of gigs, so we want to break the local barrier and play some countries we have never been to. We’ll see what the future brings.

Tena:
Thank you very much again for talking with me for HeavyHardMetalmania, it was a great pleasure! HHMM wishes you all the best in your career, and hope to hear some new releases soon!
Subscale:
Thank you for the opportunity!

And so it was written that Tena Kovačić the vile Lilith was spawned from the depths of Croatia to join the hordes of the HeavyHardMetalmania.net reviewers. "The wisdom is found in the extremes, all extreme Metal here!"
