After touring the country relentlessly for five years, the singer of a Pennsylvania hardcore band decided to stop everything, lock himself in his basement and turn a new page. Armed with a four-track and a life long obsession with Neil Young, Black Flag and Sabbath, he re-emerged two days later with the blueprint for what would become BACKWOODS PAYBACK. With the help of a few like-minded individuals the band transformed into fully operational Death Star of riffage before the end of that year.

Staying true to the D.I.Y. sensibilities of their past, BACKWOODS PAYBACK spread their word one song, town and person at a time. The band toured the U.S. whenever possible, self-recorded and released their own EPs and full-lengths and acted (and continue acting) as hosts and goodwill ambassadors of sorts to touring bands from all over the world. Small bar shows led to bigger ones and weekend tours turned into month-long jaunts. After several years and countless trips crisscrossing the country, BACKWOODS PAYBACK found themselves sharing the stage with the likes of The Hidden Hand, Exodous, Gwar and Cradle Of Filth.

The Converted:
"Exactly what big bearded men from Nowhere, PA would sound like: ball swinging sludge with a touch of blues." -- Decibel
"Backwoods Payback have the potential to make a sizable splash, and will be an easy sell to the fans of Scissorfight, Alabama Thunderpussy and Clutch." -- Metal Review
"You like heavy doses of sludge-ridden rawk like Pentagram but feel the love really coming on when you add in a steeped-in-the-still feel of the southern backwoods, this is for you." -- Ray's Realm

BACKWOODS PAYBACK: Stoner/Doom Collective Announce U.S. Tour

Band To Unleash Small Stone Recordings Debut This Spring

Pennsylvania stoner/doom rockers BACKWOODS PAYBACK are pleased to announced a 17-date U.S. tour next month with labelmates Lo Pan. The loudness will begin March 9 in Baltimore, Maryland and will include two appearances as part of this year's SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas. The band will be touring in support of their Small Stone Recordings debut, set for release later this spring

Comments guitarist/vocalist Mike Cummings of the new record and upcoming dates: "The new, as yet untitled, record is dark and ugly, but smooth in all the right places. I think live is where these songs are going to hit the hardest. We've been doing this for long enough that each stop on a tour isn't just a show anymore. It's a full blown party; a gathering of friends old and new. This tour should be no different, save for the fact that now we are flying the Small Stone flag, and are stoked to be doing so!"
