GAMMA RAY: Power Metal Icons Unleash New Lyric Video; Empire Of The Undead To Drop This Spring

Today,  Revolver premiered the lyric video for "Hellbent," from German power metal icons, GAMMA RAY. The new tune comes by way of the band's long-anticipated new full-length, Empire Of The Undead, set for release this Spring.

A record that almost wasn't, Empire Of The Undead was composed throughout 2013 with Eike Freese (Dark Age) at the mixing desk alongside bassist/co-writer, Dirk Schlächter, and was nearing completion before Hammer Studios, their home, rehearsal space, and meeting point for many metal bands throughout Germany, had burned down leaving much of its contents in ruins. Fortunately, theEmpire Of The Undead masters managed to make it through unscathed. "If this could not stop us, nothing ever will," joked light-hearted GAMMA RAY vocalist Kai Hansen, adding that, "We got rid of a lot of shit that we gathered there. Unfortunately, a lot of good equipment as well. Anyhow, we look towards the future, we saved the production and we can continue now in this new place."

Sample triumphant new teaser track, "Hellbent," now playing.

Empire Of The Undead will be released in North America on CD, LP and digitally via Armoury Records in conjunction with earMusic on April 15, 2014.

GAMMA RAY: German Power Metallers To Release Skeletons & Majesties Live CD In North America Next Month

Legendary German power metallers GAMMA RAY will unleash Skeletons & Majesties Live as a two-CD set next month via Eagle Rock imprint Armoury Records. Set for North American release on December 4, 2012, Skeletons & Majesties Live is a near two-hour magnum opus spanning the band’s history and includes classics as well as tracks which were under-represented to date. A DVD version will be released stateside in January. Skeletons & Majesties Livewas recorded and filmed during the band’s 2011 European tour at the legendary Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland and  is the first properly HD-filmed live video production of the band’s epic 20+ year career.

"The [2011 released ] EP, Skeletons & Majesties, is practically a continuation of our Skeletons In The Closet concept, in other words: new versions of songs which didn't receive the attention they deserve, as well as unplugged versions of some of our classics," notes founding vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen.

The DVD offers up a thoroughly gripping performance, from the dynamic openers "Anywhere In The Galaxy" and "Men, Martians And Machines" to the furious finale/Helloween cover "Future World.”
As a special bonus, to accompany the Hansen-penned Helloween classic on stage, GAMMA RAY enlisted the services of former Helloween frontman Michael Kiske. In addition, Kiske can be heard and seen on "Time To Break Free"and "A While In Dreamland".

The release of Skeletons & Majesties Live will mark the beginning of an eventful 2013 for GAMMA RAY: After Hansen stayed true to his word and spent 2012 concentrating mainly on his second band, Unisonic, he and his three colleagues, guitarist Henjo Richter, bassist Dirk Schlächter and new addition, drummer Michael Ehré (the Firewind/Love.Might.Kill drummer has replaced Daniel Zimmermann, who left the GAMMA RAY fold on friendly terms) are now focusing exclusively on GAMMA RAY once again. A co-headlining European tour with Helloween has been scheduled for March and will also mark the arrival of a new GAMMA RAY studio recording. Stay tuned for release dates and further details.

"GAMMY RAY will have top priority in 2013," comments Hansen, "and Skeletons & Majesties Live is the perfect harbinger of this!"

GAMMA RAY Announce New Release and Fan-Based Karaoke Contest

Armoury Records proudly unleash the details on the new release from German power metal kings GAMMA RAY!

Set for release in the US and Canada on May 31st via Armoury Records/Eagle Rock Entertainment, Skeletons & Majesties is a collection of songs GAMMA RAY gathered from previous albums represented in two completely different styles. The purpose of the disc is simply to have fun, and to give fans a heads-up on what is in store for the band in the coming months, as well as involve their fans in the upcoming actions.

The first two tracks are the "Skeletons," featuring brand new versions of some of GAMMA RAY's songs rarely (if ever) played live, including "Hold Your Ground" (from their Heading For Tomorrow album) and "Brothers" (from the Insanity And Genius album). The second section, "Majesties," is where the band display two more new versions of rarities, "Send Me A Sign (originally on the Powerplant release) and "Rebellion In Dreamland" (originally on Land Of The Free), both performed in a new acoustic presentation.

Additionally, GAMMA RAY have also included some bonus tracks, including the ultra rare track "Wannabees" -- previously only released on the To The Metal! 7’’, and available here on CD for the first time -- as well as an extended version of "Brothers."

And to top it off, the final track on the EP is another version of "Rebellion In Dreamland," this time  KARAOKE style! The band have launched a special contest, where they'll be integrating a "choir" of their fans' voices on the upcoming album version of the song! Diehards and wailers can take part in the competition by submitting a recording of their version of the song via physical demo submission or digital sound file. Full album details are available at this location.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS MONDAY, 30TH OF MAY 2010

Oices are calling from somewhere bellow
Melting on the eastern shore
Rain is falling down on me,
Been waiting for eternity...
I'll be there!
Freedom for us all!

And I wonder why, why my heart still yearns
And I wonder why, why the earth still turns
And I wonder why, why the sky turns black
Still I wonder why, but there is no turning back

For all eternity, for all the world to see
We're riding high across the wind
And when the storm begins, to wash away all sins
We'll find a place where we'll begin

There's something wrong with the world today,
Only the people that are fighting for...
...a better place in the world today,
They don't believe that they gone too far,
...they're falling down.

By moonlight there's a way... for rebellion
Here, the world has gone astray... revolution
Now, the time has come to pray... hallelujah
Deep, inside our minds we wait... for rebellion
Here in dreamland we will not obey the masters

... and the earth still turns but I'm on my way,
He is on the way, as my heart still yearns
... I'm on my way, now he is on the way,
And I cry for more
Yes I'm on my way, now he is on the way,
Gonna find the secret wall

I have seen the secret dreams
Of those who know eternity
And makes me feel like a shadow sneaking in
In my sleep I'm searching for a way to find
The open door leading me to where it all begins

There's nothing wrong with the world today...

By moonlight there's a way... for rebellion
Here, the world has gone astray... revolution
Now, the time has come to pray... hallelujah
Deep, inside our minds we wait... for rebellion
Here in dreamland we will not obey the masters

So now I'm riding through the air
Going to where no one dares
On the way I'll cross the line forevermore.
For once in life, I do not care
Nothing matters, now I dare
On the ride I'll cross the line
Forever to be free

Have no fear, Rebellion is here!

Gamma Ray

Acerca do Gamma Ray
In 1988, after spending four years with Helloween, guitarist and songwriter Kai Hansen decided to leave the band due to, as officially announced, the enormous touring activities of the band. Eventually, Hansen decided to form his own project, with long-time friend Ralf Scheepers (vocals), Uwe Wessel (bass) and Mathias Burchard (drums). In the beginning of the project Kai did not have the intention to form a new band but as the recordings with the studio-musicians went so well sourrounded by a relaxed atmosphere among the musicians it soon became obvious: Gamma Ray was born.

As plans for the band's fourth album came along, Hansen and Schlächter were annoyed by the fact that Scheepers lived such a far way away from Hamburg. This meant that they could only do band rehearsals and such on weekends, and this put a major stopper on things. Since Scheepers had auditioned for the job as vocalist for Judas Priest, and his chances at getting the spot were considered pretty good (in the end he was among the last three candidates), Hansen asked him if he really felt that staying with Gamma Ray was the right thing to do. The two decided that it would be for the best if Scheepers left the band, and so, with no hard feelings on either side, Scheepers (today Primal Fear) left Gamma Ray. Hansen then took on the guitar-vocals duties.

In May 1995 a masterpiece of melodic metal was released: The concept album Land of the Free as a mixture of the bombast of Heading for Tomorrow and the aggressiveness and heavyness of Walls of Jericho. On this album there was again a cooperation with vocalist Michael Kiske who did the vocals for one complete song called Time to break free and the chorus of the title track. Critics around the globe were extatic. Kai and Dirk entrench themselves in their studio again in August to record the EP "Silent Miracles", an EP of four wonderful ballads. Fans say that Kai did his best ever vocal effort on A While in Dreamland, a beautiful ballad with only piano and Kai’s voice. As the EP’s final mix couldn’t be done before the upcoming tour, the release of Silent Miracles was delayed to February 1996. As said, the band left for a long and excessive european tour (Men on a tour) in September turning the venues into party shacks. This was passed on in form of a live CD called Alive ‘95 released in May 1996.

The songwriting for the new album began in late 1996 with just Dirk and Kai in the band and it took them until February 1997 to find two new members: In the person of Daniel Zimmermann they found the best drummer they ever had. Henjo Richter was engaged as guitarist, a job he had already done very well on the spanish tour the year before. The ultimate Gamma Ray, and still current, line-up was formed.

In early 2004 the band started composing demo material for the new album and finally found itself back in the studio in September to start the recordings of 11 songs, that in contrast to the last two albums, show more complexity and bombast again. The work on Majestic finally was completed in May 2005 and released September, 23rd 2005.

Additional notes
Gamma Ray was founded by Kai Hansen after suddenly leaving Helloween in the late '80s. Kai formed Gamma Ray along side Ralf Scheepers, a big Judas Priest fan from the band Tyran' Pace. The beginning of Gamma Ray was pretty much the continuation of classic Helloween material (Hansen was the founder of that band too). In 1994 Ralf left Gamma Ray as a result of living too far away [...]
