Heimdalls Wacht: "Ekte Westfäölske Svatte Metal" Review & Exclusive Streaming “Das Martyrium”

From North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany a dark symphony emerged, a complex, unusual and innovator composition of pagan and anti-Christianity black metal that rose against the Zeitgeist, against modernization, against a society governed by the sharing of resources and items, an entity who uses his breath to be heard around the world, called Heimdalls Wacht (translates to “Heimdall´s Watch”).

The origin of the band´s name goes back to an ancient history in the Nordic mythology. Heimdall was the guardian/watchman of “Bifrost” the rainbow bridge, leading to Asgard, and of the gods. With a cleared eyesight and hearing he could even hear the growing of the grass and the sheep´s wool and see better than an owl during the night. Heimdall never slept for it was his duty to warn when the enemy was approaching by blowing his horn (Giallarhorn) that could be heard in the entire world. It was his destiny to kill Loki and to die in the Ragnarok battle.

Heimdalls Wacht is a XXI century band that was created in 2005 and was formerly known as Ales Stenar. They have created a demo, a split and five full-lengths one of which is their latest release named “Ekte Westfäölske Svatte Metal” a twelve track work with two hidden tracks, an almost progressive work of black metal with melody and different construction that brings a positive felling to a type of music that usually as a negative and harsh atmosphere.

With Der Stein (bass), Feuerriese (drums), Arjan Peeks (guitars, vocals), Narhemoth (vocals) and Saruman (vocals, guitars) the heavy and black atmosphere is ready and set to expose an uncommercial, unprofessional, honest, individual and old school work with a new flavor which shows that the black metal is not restricted to what it is initially and that it can evolve to a vast type of music with a different use of notes, tunes, chords, but always maintaining its roots and heaviness.

This new album shows the reason why this menacing quintet is one of the most influent and respected bands in the metal scene of Germany. From the touching melodies of this work to the most unexpected strong compositions and to the old sound there is an almost incomprehensible fairness that surrounds us and leaves us defenseless. This is the perfect harmony between evil and good, between the raging and hungry distortion of instruments and the contradictory clean sound of calm strings… a disharmony in perfect harmony, a well balanced creation!

Sons such as “Das Martyrium” and “Exil” are very characteristic and unique, my favorite songs of the twelve track album for its ingenuity and brilliance. The “unprofessional” idea of what black metal must be, the raw and unworked sound contributed with a large percentage to the professionalism of this dark force.

One melee with the words, ideas and its paradoxes... albuns that are news, the reviews at "HeavyHardMetalmania.net", always with its watermark,  Pedro Ribeiro, with love for beer... sorry, music from an early age, he studied piano and singing from 7 to 14 years,  then, devoted himself to the study of the guitar for 5 years. "The wisdom is found in the extremes, all extreme Metal here!"

Heimdalls Wacht - 'Ekte Westfäölske Svatte Metal' CD: Out November 01 2012; stream two tracks!

The highly anticipated fifth full length of nostalgic and authentic pagan black metal band Heimdalls Wacht will be released this fall.

The band writes: "From the very heart of old Westphalen - from the darkests forests, the most desolate tunnels and buried pits, the most remote holes and ruins arose a black manifest against the Zeitgeist... Hymns and sounds, that reveal what lurks beneath the seemingly orderly surface - harmonies of oblivion - voices of unreason - memories of long supressed feelings... A cry against the mechanisms of modernity! Diverse, pagan black metal with varied influences as an emotional farewell for that which once was - and never will be again..."

HEIMDALLS WACHT - Nichtorte – Oder die Geistreise des Runenschamen

Heidens Hart Records  introduce their newest signing: German black / pagan metal band Heimdalls Wacht. Without a doubt one of the most respected black metal bands from Germany, always following their own old-school path and attitude, never wimping out or going for the stereotypes or for cheap political remarks.

Heimdalls Wacht is all about nostalgia. Their music represents the deity Heimdall, who looks at the modern world and concludes that everything he has fought for, has been in vain. He finds that all culture and identity has been lost, and he is overtaken with feelings of nostalgia, melancholy and anger. This translates to highly varied and expressionistic music, elevating through times long forgotten: epic yet melancholic guitar melodies and captivating, triumphant choirs are carefully composed to mix with aggressive and fierce blasting parts, as well as sections that remind of traditional folk music. No track is without a memorable tune, as 'Maelstrom', 'Der Wind gibt mir Geleit' and 'Ignis fatuus' will prove. The lyrics are at times conceptual, philosophical and traditional wonderings, deeply rooted in the history of their home-state Westphalia (a key state of Germany with a rich history), and especially its center Mönsterland, sometimes even written in the dialect of the area. To further stress this representation, the band refuses to give in to big promotional campaigns, and stresses they stand for noncommercial values in the metal underground scene, in a way not many bands share unfortunately. Neither do they have an official website or any social community accounts. Any eventual web-presence is to further explain their complex concept.

Four full length albums have been released since 2005 (though, with its spontaneous and primitive recording circumstances, 'Westfälischer Schlachtenlärm' was really more a demo), each one showing clear progression over the predecessor, yet always maintaining that feeling of nostalgia; always capturing that rough, primordial atmosphere and authentic mood of Heimdalls Wacht. Right after their first sign of life, the band got quickly offered high places on various big club and open air festivals. Their albums found a way to their fans in record time, leaving them completely sold-out in a short time – an almost surreal situation in this age of illegal downloads. The latest album 'Nichtorte', presented to you here, was originally released by an established promising German label who also represented popular bands like Angantyr, Orlog, Hel, Vardlokkur, Helritt, among others. Unfortunately, the label folded right after the album was released, so only a couple of hundreds cd's were sold, and no promotion was done at all. How better for Heidens Hart to start of this collaboration of tyrants with a proper and deserved release of the latest Heimdalls Wacht album 'Nichtorte - Oder die Geistreise des Runenschamanen'!?
