SEPULTURA: "THE MEDIATOR BETWEEN HEAD AND HANDS MUST BE THE HEART" Artwork & Track Listing Revealed

Legendary Brazilian metal icons SEPULTURA have revealed the cover artwork and track listing for the band’s forthcoming album, »The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart«, which is set for European release on October 25th via Nuclear Blast. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Alexandre Wagner, who specializes in charcoal drawing techniques.

Kisser commented:
"It was an indication of Silvio Bibika, who was my roadie for a long time. He always shows me things in general that SEPULTURA might need. He told me about Alexandre - who is from Belo Horizonte [in Brazil, where SEPULTURA was founded] - a year ago. So before we went to the United States to record the album, I was at his house to talk about the cover, tell him the album title, and talk about the concept of the film Metropolis so he could do something original. But when I saw the picture with the drawing, I thought it was all about what we wanted and we did not need something new. I also asked him to do a tribal ‘S’ in the cover’s style, which will be on the back cover.”

About his creation the artist Alexandre Wagner comments:
“This series of work in charcoal drawing [for the album] I did when I still lived in Belo Horizonte. They were all made there and are quick drawings without much reference, almost an experimentation that may have come from a desire to use the most basic of basic materials - coal, paper and wood. The cover design was ready, Andreas saw and liked it. We talked a little more and I also sent some other pictures for the booklet. I was pleased with the choice of the theme of the album; I like [Austrian filmmaker] Fritz Lang very much and not to mention only Metropolis, but Dr. Mabuse der Spieler [Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, Lang’s 1922 film] is a fucking movie!"

A fellow Mineiro from Belo Horizonte, Alexandre is glad to be part of SEPULTURA’s history.
"It’s impossible being from Belo Horizonte and not know the band,” he says. “Some of their albums followed me for a long time, especially [1993’s] »Chaos A.D.«. I remember seeing ‘Refuse/Resist’ on TV and thinking that was wonderful. It's really cool to work with the guys, being part of something together. It is somehow a shared history."

The track listing for the album is:
01. Trauma Of War
02. The Vatican
03. Impending Doom
04. Manipulation of Tragedy
05. Tsunami
06. The Bliss Of Ignorants
07. Grief
08. The Age Of The Atheist
09. Obsessed
10. Da Lama Ao Caos (Chico Science & Nação Zumbi cover)

"The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart" this is the title of Sepultura`s new album

Legendary brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA have announced the title of the band's forthcoming album: "The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart".

Although being inspired by Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie “Metropolis”, the album is not set out to be a concept album or a soundtrack like it's precedessors "Dante XXI" (“The Divine Comedy”) and "A-Lex" (“A Clockwork Orange”).

"The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart" was recorded together with renowned sound guru Ross Robinson (who already had worked with the band on their landmark release »Roots« back in 1996).

The highly anticipated album is scheduled for a late October 2013 release via Nuclear Blast.

Sepultura

Commented guitarist Andreas Kisser: “I was inspired by a phrase which is the main message of the story: "The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart" to express what we are saying on the lyrics.

In the movie, a crazy millionaire wants to transform a robot into a real person. That's kind of the opposite of what we live today. More than ever we are robotized, through the worldwide web, Google glasses, chips under our skins and the globalized slavery our society suffers nowadays. The phrase points to the heart as being the human factor who keeps a man, a man, not a robot. The heart beats with freedom of choice, we have to think by ourselves to create a real world, not a matrix.

Being a novel written in the early 1920's, it's almost prophetical. It helped us to put the ideas together for the lyrics to express what we see today. I live in São Paulo, Brasil, one of the big metropolis in the world with more than 20.000.000 people living and working in it. I know how it is to live in daily chaos, our music reflects a lot of that feeling.”

Adding about the musical direction of the new album and working with Ross Robinson again: “The album is brutal, fast and straight to the point, I feel this is the best SEPULTURA ever, no bullshit. To work with Ross Robinson again was a privilege, one of the best producers out there. He has a strong connection with nature, the human heart, with life in general. We did an album that is alive, no fake studio tricks, we were jamming together in the room exploding in an energy so strong you could grab it. The heart will never stop beating for mankind, we are no robots, we are pure natural energy and that's worth fighting for. We're not slaves, I have a pulsing heart!”

ELOY CASAGRANDE is the new drummer of the "SEPULTURA"

According to a statement on the official site of the Sepultura:

Brazil’s triumphant heavy metal export, Sepultura, has announced the addition of drummer, Eloy Casagrande, to its arsenal of world-class musicians, replacing Jean Dolabella as the band’s full-time percussionist.

The 20-year-old drum prodigy from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who won the Modern Drummer Undiscovered Drummer Contest as a teenager in 2006, is more than eager to begin his career with the veteran metal icon.

“When I got the invitation to join Sepultura, I was in shock,” said Casagrande. “I'm a fan of the band for years; it'll be an honor to play with them.”
Commented guitarist, Andreas Kisser, “I'm sure Eloy will do a great job with Sepultura. He's already a musician who shows a lot of strength and technique, although he's young. We did a rehearsal with him and it was fantastic; he played the old and new material as if he was in the band for a long time. Sepultura will show the world another Brazilian talent on the drums.”

Dolabella, who leaves Sepultura after a five-year run of relentless touring and two studio albums, will depart to focus on personal projects.

“The period we spent with Jean in the band was very positive,” added Kisser. “We’ve recorded two great albums together and did a lot of concerts which will be in Sepultura's history. We only have reasons to thank him for his contribution and energy all these years.”

Sepultura is currently home in Brazil preparing for a European run with Exodus and Destruction, which will kick off later this month. The band is touring in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, Kairos, which hit stores in July.

Stay tuned for more information on Sepultura.

ROOTS BLOODY ROOTS The Story

"Roots Bloody Roots" is a song by Sepultura, the song is released as the first single from their sixth album Roots, released in 1996. The song is the band's best-known, and remains a concert staple to this day. A music video was filmed for the single which features the band performing in an underground cave as well as on the streets with a tribe of percussionists. This video can be found on the VHS We Are What We Are, which was later released on DVD as part of Chaos DVD. In addition to the song being Sepultura's most popular, it also one of the most widely recognized metal songs of the 90's.
The song also appears in live form on the band's live releases Under a Pale Grey Sky and Live in Sao Paulo. Another live version appears on the limited edition digipak version of the band's 2000 album Nation. Former Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera has also played the song live numerous times with his other band Soulfly. Recordings of their version can be found on the limited edition versions of the albums Soulfly and Prophecy, as well as on the DVD The Song Remains Insane.
Song Meaning

Like most Sepultura songs, the song is thought to be another protest song. The most common meaning that fans come up with is that everyone needs to preserve their own roots, and not modernize, forget or feel shame for them. This is shown in the lyrics We don't need to change, our ways to be saved. The music video shows Brazilians practicing Capoeira and native tribes playing the drums in their tribe uniforms.

Another theory is that Max is talking about his own country's roots. The video shows scenes of Catholic churches. It can also be about slavery in Brazil, and how blood was spilt so generations to come wouldn't be enslaved. This is shown in the lyrics And all I want to see, set us free.

Releases
The single was released on 2 CDs and 7” vinyl. The first CD was presented in a card foldout digipak case, while the second was in a standard slimline jewel case. Early copies of the digipak version were embossed with a stamp of the band's thorned ‘S' logo. The vinyl was a strictly limited edition and was red in colour.
