WATAIN: Great Performance At WACKEN OPEN AIR 2012

On the 7th of May 2012, the first Watain film was released. Its title is Opus Diaboli. Opus Diaboli is the commemoration of Watain's 13 year Anniversary. Half of the 90 minutes long movie consists of concert footage from the 13 Year Anniversary percomance in Stockholm last year, the other half consists of artistic reflections, interviews, historical footage from the 90's and on, and many additional eye opening passages shedding light upon the glimmering darkness that is Watain, and some of the many symbols and ideas connected to it. 

Two versions will be made available; one regular DVD that apart from the DVD will also contain two bonus CDs including the audio recording of the full 13 Year Anniversary concert in Stockholm.

The second version of Opus Diaboli will be a limited vinyl box including the DVD, 2 audio CDs with the live recording, 2 LPs with the live recording, and last but definitely not least a historical photobook containing old flyers and never seen photos, most of them taken off stage. 

This was the first release of Watain's own label, His Master's Noise. Both versions are available for pre-order through the official merch store WOLF WEAR.

Sad news: One death at "Wacken Open Air 2012"

W.O.A. in a press release today:

"At this year‘s W:O:A festival a tragic accident took place on the camping ground. As far as is known now, a festival guest laid down on canvas-covered trailer, where he fell asleep. A power generator was also located underneath the cover and running, filling the space between trailer and canvas with poisonous carbon monoxide. As it appears, the person on the trailer was breathing in this gas and consequently died. After approx. two hours, the friends of the deceased went looking and discovered the lifeless body under the canvas on the trailer. Emergency services and doctor were called immediately, but couldn‘t successfully resuscitate the person. 

The State Attorney has started investigations."

SEPULTURA: Wacken 2012 Full Performance

The full show that SEPULTURA did on Thursday (2/8) at Wacken Open Air in Germany, is available on the players below. As usual the band was accompanied by the percussion group Tambours du Bronx, as happened in the Brazilian and Portuguese editions of the Rock In Rio, the show took place during the afternoon and lasted about 70 minutes. Wacken: The weather threatens festival

Wacken Open Air issued the following statement:

"Due to the actual weather situation (partial more than 50 liter/m² rain in one hour) we have a special request to you:

DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN AN EARLY ARRIVAL IS NOT POSSIBLE BEFORE TUESDAY, 31ST OF JULY - THE SAME GOES FOR PEOPLE TRAVELLING WITHOUT OWN VEHICLE. IF POSSIBLE PLEASE TRAVEL BY BUS AND TRAIN WICH ENSURE A COMFORTABLE AND SAFE ARRIVAL.

To guarantee us, but ESPECIALLY YOU a smooth festival we are depending on your cooperation.

The grounds are completely soaked at the moment and CAN’T be frequented by automobiles. Unfortunately, more rain is announced for this weekend.

The whole team is working at full speed at the dewatering and preparation of the grounds, to enable the camping at the automobiles and to afford you the best possible camping grounds. The weather outlook for the festival time is better, but every day counts to get the grounds dry, so that they will sustain the festival time, which is of-course in everyone's interest. But this contains, that the campgrounds have to be blank as long as possible and that they can’t be frequented by car or foot.

We hope and request your cooperation and we are sure that you will understand and support us, to make the W:O:A the most awesome metal party of the year again.

Corpse Garden: Winners of the Metal-Battle Central America

Costa Rica won this time with Corpse Garden, and advance to the International Battle at Wacken Open Air in Germany. After 9 Preliminary rounds, plus a final, 62 bands in 6 countries celebrated the second "W:O:A Metal Battle " in Central America. The Final took place in San Jose, Costa Rica into the third version of the metal festival "Bone Breaker" and the jury based on metal experts from Central America, the death metal band was designed to be the representation to the finals in Germany.

Corpse Garden has already released a full length album called 'Burnt by the Light'. A video for the song + a following interview (in Spanish) can be seen below.

Corpse Garden is a Death Metal band from Costa Rica. Formed in 2008 from a dissolution of a Gore/Grind band they recorded their first demo on 2009. In 2011, the hit the studio to record their full-lenght album 'Burnt by the Light' in Bushido Audio Productions and also the album was mastered by Jens Bogren from Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath, Symphony X, among others). They release their debut album on January 20,2012 and won the Central American Wacken Metal Battle 2012.

Aura Noir to play Wacken Open Air 2012

2012 will be the first time for Norwegian band Aura Noir to play Wacken Open Air. The Black/Thrash metal band already released 4 albums, since they were founded in 1993. In 2005, band member Carl-Michael was hurt so bad, that he was paralyzed from the ankles down. Anyway he released the album Hades Rise in 2008 with the band and by now he also is going to perform on stage again. Welcome on board!

W:O:A METAL BATTLE PORTUGAL 2012

Depois da excelente participação dos SEVEN STITCHES e dos PRAYERS OF SANITY no Wacken Open Air, estão já abertas as inscrições para o ano de 2012. Este será, também, o primeiro ano de colaboração entre o Wacken Open Air e a NUCLEAR BLAST pelo que, à banda vencedora será oferecido um contrato discográfico, com aquela que é considerada a maior editora de Heavy Metal do Mundo.

Mais uma vez, a SWR inc., em cooperação com a ICS, conceituada promotora do Wacken Open Air, um dos maiores festivais de heavy metal do planeta, vai proporcionar a uma banda portuguesa a presença no cartaz deste mítico festival, cuja lotação habitualmente esgotada já ascende aos 100.000 espectadores.

As bandas concorrentes terão apenas que cumprir dois únicos pré-requisitos, designadamente o de não manterem qualquer contrato discográfico, presentemente ou num futuro próximo, e o de serem capazes de apresentar um espectáculo de temas originais com uma duração mínima de 30 minutos.

A Metal Battle Portugal baseia-se na realização de uma série de classificativas regionais que procurarão abranger da melhor forma todo o território nacional, abrindo as portas à participação de jovens colectivos oriundos dos mais diversos cantos do país. Ao longo do mês de Janeiro, serão apuradas as cinco presenças na final nacional. Cabe ao vencedor da final nacional, a ter lugar no dia 26 de Abril de 2012 no âmbito do SWR barroselas metalfest XV, representar Portugal no palco W.E.T. do Wacken Open Air 2012.

O encerramento da Metal Battle Portugal em Barroselas é um incentivo adicional dirigido a todos os potenciais concorrentes. A possibilidade de actuarem neste reconhecido berço do underground nacional, habilitando-se a um concerto na Alemanha, afigura-se um desafio bastante apetecível. A possível vitória do representante Português na final internacional da competição conduz ainda à obtenção de diversos prémios tais como contratos discográficos, patrocínios ou instrumentos musicais.

WACKEN News VOLBEAT Only European Show 2012!

The band we are talking about in the following is part of the small range of artists who managed it to add a new sub-genre to the metal scene! Of course, we are speaking about no one less then VOLBEAT!

They belong to the absolute top newcomer acts – Danish Dynamite! Their last album „Beyond Hell / Above Heaven“, which was released back in 2010, was honored as fourth record in a row with a “golden record” and catapulted the band from Copenhagen a further step in direction ROCK-OLYMPUS! You´ll never get enough from this danish combo! The title of their upcoming live album (to be released on the 18th November 2011) is also definitely characteristic for their live appearances, which will take you through metals heaven and hell together! While there were no European live appearances expected in 2012, we have spared no efforts to get the band back to Wacken where they will play an exclusive unique show. This will be a their only European Live Show in 2012 – for sure a true “Night to Remember”!
