Eihwaz Recordings Signs VEX; Vinyl Reissue of Memorious Available

Eihwaz... Rune of the mysteries of life and death.

Eihwaz has been created as a sub-label of the long running Bindrune Recordings to explore and support more extreme metal genres that do not fit the unique aesthetic nurtured by Bindrune. With Eihwaz, we are looking to expand into the dark and twisted side of death metal, though we will not be limited to it. Other forms will undoubtedly seep into the oncoming storm, but do know that we shall be hunting for a vibrant strand of uniqueness and dedicated musical intensity as found on the ever growing Bindrune roster.

In celebration of this search for creative extremity, Eihwaz is pleased to announce the signing of Austin, Texas' VEX!

After months of planning and organization, the wait is over.  The time has come.  Eihwaz Recordings' inaugural release - the album that last year resurrected melodic death metal from it's mouldy tomb, courtesy the efforts of five talented and determined Texans - is finally available on vinyl!

Memorious de-iced the frozen earlobes of the Eihwaz staff to such a degree we felt that this album was pre-ordained to be our newly-minted label's first entry into the war-torn battlefield of Death Metal.  When you hear for yourself the layered, intricate riffs of varying shades, the solid and original drumwork and sounds, the deft and energetic bass lines, and powerful, yet perfectly discernible vocals delivered now, for the first time, on wax - you will fall to your knees and placate that god of foresty heaviness, now stricken with decaying beauty.

There are only 250 copies of Memorious available, so order now at this location.

FREE SHIPPING IN THE US!!! The package is a 2LP black vinyl set containing an insert housed in a heavy jacket with a 5MM spine. All pre-orders will receive a free VEX Logo DIY/Silkscreened patch!

Look for new material from VEX (and others TBA) in 2014, all brought to you by Eihwaz Recordings, and (of course) Thank you for your support!

VEX reschedules the release date for their sophomore effort Memorious

San Marcos/Austin, TX Progressive Death/Black Metal Horde VEX have now set February 5, 2013 as the release date for their sophomore effort Memorious, instead of the previously announced January 1st unleashing.

This highly anticipated follow-up to the band's 2010 full-length Thanatopsis will be released through Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.

In a review of the debut album Thanatopsis Grave Music said VEX "demonstrates an exceptional aptitude at constructing expertly arranged progressive death metal with blackened flourishes."  While those sentiments certainly describe Memorious as well, the words "you ain't heard nothin' yet" also come to mind. Believe the hype.

Vex is a Central Texas-based extreme metal band that has been gigging around the state since about 2001. Their 2003 EP Sphereith earned considerable praise from 'zines such as Terrorizer and helped the band earned opening slots for international touring slots for Deicide, Hate Eternal, Immolation, Origin, Krisiun, Katatonia, Goatwhore, Moonspell, Exhumed, among others.

In 2005, Vex entered Noise Farm Studios to record a promotional release of songs that would eventually end up on the full-length album Thanatopsis. To promote this release and the EP, the band embarked on a West Coast tour with Godless Rising (Moribund Records) and Avenger of Blood (JCM Records) in the summer of 2006. The next few years were spent sorting out lineup issues and working on Thanatopsis, which would see a release in September 2010 through Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. Earlier in the year, Vex released a split 7-inch release with reunited Texas Death Metal group Divine Eve through the same label. Obliteration Records released a CD version of the split in Japan and Asia, featuring 3 tracks from each group.

The two years following the release of Thanatopsis would see further lineup changes, with Joe Jackson from local black metal Sakrefix replacing vocalist Orlando Perez. Apart from a few local gigs, the primary focus during this period was on writing, arranging and recording new material. The culmination of these efforts was the second full-length album Memorious, set for official release through HPGD Productions in January 2013. A limited edition pressing of the album was released in August 2012 to coincide with the band's first full tour of the East Coast. More extensive touring and promotion is set for 2013.

VEX's "Thanatopsis" Drops Jaws Across The Globe

Lauded by critics worldwide, Thanatopsis, the stunning full-length debut from Texas metal haven VEX, has quickly become one of 2010's must-have albums since its September release. This dynamic and unique journey through all things extreme has proven VEX a formidable force in the underground. If you haven't done so yet, please take a break from the holiday clamor and chaos and spend some time with Thanatopsis

Ciaran McCloskey - guitars

Michael Day - guitars

Olando "Logan" Perez - vocals

Owen McCloskey - drums

Bill Edgar - bass

"Although mainly death metal oriented, they spice things up with so many elements from black, folk, prog and thrash and add a layer of occult elements throughout the album to create something of their own The variation between songs and within songs keeps things fresh and interesting and is a definite selling point. A more than interesting album for anyone who likes occult themed blackened death." - Lords of Metal

"Vex's Thanatopsis has been added to a list of favorite new albumsfor this year. The genre Vex offers is difficult to pinpoint. They are described as a death/thrash metal band, but there are elements of black metal and moments of an almost groovy rock sound. Thanatopsis has such an irregular style that it is no wonder it is too vast to put just one finger on its genre. A mixture of influences like Iron Maiden, Rush, Bathory, Van Morrison, James Joyce, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Guinness, Patron, and self-loathing are bound to produce an original sound." - Blistering [9.5/10]

"With masters degree students comprising the line up and influences that range from Dissection to Rush to Absu we're talking about stuff deviating from the norm. Vex have done all the hard work on the 7 long tracks on this album, all you need to do is sit back, listen and be prepared to have Vex grow some braincells on yer bonce!!" - Battle Helm

"The band from Texas releases his first album and immediately scores points" - Flight of Pegasus

"You might be quite surprised to discover that Vex are some long obscured treasure of progressive, moody melodic death/black/thrash metal that seems rather uncanny hailing from Texas, one of the brutal death capitals of the States. Here we've got something well off the beaten path, even though the stones paving said path have been lifted from more frequently traveled concourses."  - From the Dust Returned

"There may well be only seven songs on the album but buyers will feel in no way short changed as in the main this is an exercise in excellence." - Sea of Tranquility

"The riffs are sometimes blistering and blackened, laden with trem picking and melodic passages-and sometimes the band breaks it down to harmonious doomy, atmospheric parts. In both cases, everything feels in its place and the record flows expertly making for a fantastic listening experience that is both heavy and emotionally evocative.Thanatopsisis one of the most enjoyable underground offerings that this Angry Metal Guy has heard all year.  " - The Angry Metal Guy

Horror Pain Gore Death ProductionsRelease: 9/7/2010
Dynamic Death Metal that channels the archaic energy of Extreme Metal! Surging atavistic aggression emanates from an atmospheric and melodic folk-based core. Thanatopsis takes you on aural journeys to vast, desolate landscapes. From the Funeral Doom of "Erosion" to the desperate speed of "Motionless," VEX use a vast amount of colors and tones to paint each and every facet of the human death-drive. The continual emphasis on speed and aggression recalls THE CHASM and THE CROWN, while dark, melodic passages are in the vein of DISSECTION and PRIMORDIAL.

VEX is:

Orlando Logan Perez - Vocals (Against the Plagues)
Ciaran McCloskey - Guitar (Nosferion)
Mike Day - Guitar (Ruins of Honor, Bilderberg)
Bill Edgar - Bass (R.C.P)
