The Return Of Black Metal - WATAIN Confirmed For Maryland Deathfest 2010
Swedish Black metal tyrants WATAIN have - during and since their 111 date long "Fuck the World Tour" - been working in silence in secrecy on what is to become the band's fourth full-length album. The band states: "We can now reveal the long awaited first live performance to break the silence. WATAIN will return to the stage at the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore, Maryland on the 28th of May 2010, alongside legends such as Autopsy, Pentagram and Possessed. This will be the first performance done in relation to the new WATAIN album, to be released worldwide only weeks after the show through Season of Mist."
WATAIN are well known for their ceremonial and mass-like performances where the foulest and most barbaric traditions of Black/Death Metal are intermingled with an undeniable presence of ancient magic, skill and a twisted yet solemn grace. Prepare yourself for the return of Black Metal!

WATAIN - Sworn To The Dark

WATAIN crawled into existence in 1998. Conceived out of the will to take the members' previous musical attempts to a higher level, the band quickly established itself as a hard-working underground phenomenon of most sinister kind. About a year later, a 7'' EP entitled "The Essence of Black Purity" was released on Swedish Grim Rune Productions.

The EP eventually found its way to the French label Drakkar Productions, who offered WATAIN a deal for two full-length albums. Much material had already been written, so the band soon entered the ritual chambers of Necromorbus Studio to record the much praised debut "Rabid Death's Curse", a release of relentless Black/Death Metal lunacy which was received with a roar of appreciation from the worldwide underground. The impact of the album together with WATAIN's merciless devotion to their creation elevated the band to the higher realms of the underground metal hierarchy in a quick pace.

Following the release of the debut album, WATAIN began to hit the European stages with full force, performing together with bands such as ROTTING CHRIST, DARK FUNERAL, MORTUARY DRAPE, ANTAEUS, MUTIILATION, etc. It didn't take long until the band had gained a vast reputation or their intense, ritualized live-performances embodying every aspect of traditional Black/Death Metal sorcery, violent ceremonies of blood, fire, death and magic. The first complete European crusade - the Black War Tour- was done early 2002.

WATAIN once again entered Necromorbus studios in June 2003 to record their second full-length album, which after three years of composing finally had grown into its full abominable shape. The end result became "Casus Luciferi", a fanatical monument of magical Black Metal. Since then the album has been hailed as one of the most relevant underground Black Metal albums of the new millennium. An album proudly revealing the horrifying glory of the true, dangerous and by many shunned Black Metal legacy, without a hint of irony, doubt or uncertainty. At the same time as the release of the album, the "Stellar Descension Infernal" Tour is done throughout Europe together with SECRETS OF THE MOON and AVERSE SEFIRA.

In 2004, WATAIN continuously stroke stages in Czech Republic, Italy, Great-Britain and Scandinavia, building further upon their now global reputation as one of the most passionate and eye-opening live acts of extreme Metal. When the darkness of winter began to fall upon the trembling plains of Europe, the band embarked on a two-month tour together with DISSECTION, marching victoriously through eighteen countries.

It took WATAIN again three years to define the nature of the work that became their third full-length album. With the combined force of four labels releasing the album in different territories of the world, WATAIN is now preparing for the immense discharge of Magic and Death that will mark the release of the ultimate Black Metal monolith "Sworn to the Dark".

Season of Mist unleash "Sworn to the Dark" in Europe on February 19th, 2007.

Watain - Storm of the Antichrist

From the vaults below the desert temple to the throne among the stars...

"Watain from Sweden to me are like Hellhammer reborn, and I mean that in a totally positive manner. Watain approach their music with a certain level of respect, and a certain level of mystique. What they are doing is not just a performance; it goes much deeper than that. That reminds me so much of the good sides of Hellhammer."
- Tom G Warrior, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer (UB Magazine Australia 2007)

Watain was formed in 1998 and have since then released three fullength albums; "Rabid Death's Curse" in 2000, "Casus Luciferi" in 2003 and in february 2007; the highly acclaimed "Sworn to the Dark".

The band has embarked on several tours across the world, together with bands such as Dissection, Angelcorpse and Celtic Frost. This together with their extensive list of exclusive gigs and festival-appearances has resulted in Watain becoming globally infamous and highly acclaimed for their blood-drenched, fiery performances, being ceremonies of radiant madness and the blackest metal fanaticism.

Since the release of "Sworn to the Dark" in early 2007, Watain has been out on their giant
Fuck the World Tour reaching through Europe, North America, South America and Mexico. The last 111th date was held as a commemoration of the bands 10 year anniversary, in Uppsala, Sweden. Read more about that legendary concert above in the topic "An Ending in FIRE".

Until the release of the next album which is now being composed, the gates to Temple of Watain shall be closed. There are however a number of spectacular things planned that shall occur before the release of the album, and this page is until then the only reliable source of information. Keep checking back for news.

Watain performs Black Metal in it's original form; dangerous, passionate, sinister and magical. Drenched in blood, swept in mystery, shunning no sacrifice. You have been warned.

Through raging fire, trough Death and hail
Clinging to the Dragons tail
And as the world behind me burns
I ride it's wings, on paths of no return...
