AMON AMARTH Score Their Strongest Chart Impacts Around The World With New Album Deceiver of the Gods

Band Set To Unleash “Father Of The Wolf” Video; Main Stage Slot On North American Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest Underway

The release of Deceiver of the Gods, the latest studio album from Swedish melodic death metal titans, AMON AMARTH, has broken the band's previous sales records around the world.  The album landed at #19 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and #19 on the Top Current Albums Chart. The band’s last album, Surtur Rising, entered the Top 200 Chart at #34 making Deceiver of the Gods the band’s highest charting record to date.

In Germany, Deceiver of the Gods entered the Top 100 Chart at #3, the official Media Market/Saturn Chart at #3 and the German Media Control Weekend Trend Chart at #2.

Deceiver of the Gods came in at #9 on Canada’s Top 200 Chart, #2 on the Hard Music Charts and #21 on the Digital Music Chart. Additionally, the record came in at #2 on the iTunes Metal Chart, #2 on the iTunes Rock Chart and #7 on the iTunes Top 200.

In the UK, the record entered the official Album Charts at #67, the Rock/Metal Chart at #4 and the Independent Chart at #14 marking the highest UK chart placements for the band yet.

Elsewhere, Deceiver of the Gods came in at #9 on the Top 100 Album Chart in Switzerland, #7 on the Austrian Top 100, #9 in Sweden, #27 in Denmark, #51 in France, #34 in Czech Republic and #51 in Hungary.

Comments the band of their latest triumph: "The fan reaction to Deceiver of the Gods around the globe is both amazing and overwhelming. Our fans are strong and true and we are humbled by the support. We look forward to visiting everyone on the road."

Deceiver of the Gods, released in North America via Metal Blade Records on June 25th, was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Killswitch Engage, Megadeth, Opeth) and is reaping critical accolades internationally.  Notes Decibel Magazine in a 9/10 rating of the record: “Deceiver of the Gods goes from rampaging to brooding to anthemic over a well-conceived trajectory…. This is an album that begs to be consumed in its entirety at every listen, just to get the full experience.” Revolver Magazine shares the sentiment, “No one delivers big, punch-in-the-face motifs better than AMON AMARTH, and the Swedish melodic-death-metal titans have excelled themselves on their ninth studio album… Not only does Johan Hegg deliver his fiercest growls ever, but he also duets mesmerizingly with operatic ex-Candlemass frontman Messiah Marcolin on ‘Hel.’” Metal Hammer crowns Deceiver of the Gods, “easily one of the strongest and most diverse records the Swedes have ever made,” and “gloriously extravagant" commending the band’s “explosive blend of brutish riffing and unapologetic Maiden worship…”

Literally invading U.S. shores, AMON AMARTH's main stage slot on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest stuck awe into the hearts of media and fans alike when it opened last Saturday in San Bernardino, California. The band's mammoth stage production, including a Viking Longboat and the amassing armies in the war between Odin and Loki, has lit up the internet with excitement for the band's set.  Said Metalassault.com, "the stunning stage production was what really made this AMON AMARTH show stand out from their own past shows, and indeed from all other bands that played this festival."

In related news, AMON AMARTH is currently putting the finishing touches on the official video for colossal track “Father Of The Wolf.” The video will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Until then, check out the trailer now playing at the band’s microsite: http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

AMON AMARTH: Final Segment Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Revealed

The final segment of AMON AMARTH’s Forging Mjölnir mini documentary premieres today! The intimate three-part account comes in celebration of their forthcoming new studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods, set for worldwide release later this month. Directed by Luke Daley (makezure.com), the striking black and white film offers candid commentary with each member on a host of subjects.

Watch the concluding clip where the AMON AMARTH collective discuss the struggles of tour life, recording and their hopes for the future via their microsite at deceiver.amonamarth.

Having blasted onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998's Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every AMON AMARTH album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology. Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers.

Their ninth epic was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap, a man whose resumé includes seminal albums from the likes of Cathedral, Arch Enemy, and Cradle Of Filth. Vocalist Johan Hegg explains, “We wanted more of a live feeling to the recording and we felt that Andy’s style of producing could definitely help us with that. At the same time, knowing the records he worked on previously we felt he could probably help develop our sound so it became a little bit more angry and dangerous, without that polished sheen of our recent records.” Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen concurs, and credits Sneap with playing a pivotal role in just how aggressive the finished product is. “It’s rougher, and like a punch in the face, which is what we wanted it to be. Though adding more thrash elements into a few of the songs helps the whole album sound more hostile, it’s ultimately the production that makes them sound more aggressive. On the last few records it didn’t matter how aggressive the riffs we wrote were, whenever we went into the studio at the end they just didn’t sound as intense.” In tracking the record at Sneap’s UK studio, as much as possible the band recorded long takes rather than clinically piecing things together, determined to give the album as much life as they could. “Fredrik [Andersson] recorded all the drums live, with the guys playing guitars and bass along with him to get the groove of it, and that makes for the energy that you don’t get when everyone records separately, and I think that really comes across,” Hegg states. “I think that was a very good way to record for us, it gave everyone a better feel of each song, and it was a good time being in the studio and laying it all down.”

Deceiver of the Gods boasts another exceptional Tom Thiel-created cover depicting a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”

AMON AMARTH: Second Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Posted

In anticipation of the release of their ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods, Swedish death metal tyrants AMON AMARTH today unleash the second of their special three-part mini documentary. Fittingly titled Forging Mjölnir, the crisp black and white film was directed by Luke Daley.

Watch the latest fifteen-minute segment where the AMON AMARTH collective recall their earliest metal memories as well as the band’s primitive beginnings via their microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

From the moment the title track explodes in a haze of thrash-flavored aggression to the final mournful passages of epic closer “Warriors Of The North” there is not a wasted moment, the band bombarding the listener with ten tracks of compulsive and electrifying metallic fury. Whether they’re attempting to remove your face and separate your vertebrae with the deranged attack of “Blood Eagle” or carrying you on the back of the mammoth grooves driving “We Shall Destroy” and “Father Of The Wolf” they hit with decimating force, all the while unleashing ruthlessly captivating melodies. With the aforementioned thrash elements creeping in, as well as the old school metal and doom accents lending added depth and scale to standout track “Hel,” guitarist Olavi Mikkonen admits this time out the band were not afraid to wear their influences on their collective sleeve. “We decided fairly early that we should go all-in on the songwriting for this album. If we had ideas or riffs that were perhaps a little too thrash oriented or traditional-metal sounding for AMON - or that were maybe too AMON or perhaps similar to what we had done in the past - we would still keep them as long as we really liked them. A few years back we would pass on those ideas and riffs, while now we feel it was right to just go with it. I think the result is that the songs are wider, they have stronger melodies, they are better composed with lots of dynamics in them, and there are no fillers or blanks on there. Everything is as good as it can possibly be, and reflects just how driven we were to make this a great record.”

Deceiver of the Gods was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage) and comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. AMON AMARTH: First Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Posted

As previously announced, today AMON AMARTH unveils the first of their special three-part mini documentary titled Forging Mjölnir. Filmed and directed by Luke Daley (http://makezure.com), the up-close-and-personal clip -- which includes stunning black and white nature footage and Norse artwork -- celebrates the imminent release of the band’s ninth studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods.

Watch the six-and-a-half minute segment where vocalist Johan Hegg and bassist Ted Lundström elaborate on the mythological themes found within their latest epic via the band’s microsite.

Not many bands can claim their ninth album as the most powerful, dynamic, and plainly aggressive of their career, but then AMON AMARTH have consistently upped their game with every successive release. Having exploded onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998's Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology.Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers. "Every time we start working on new music we begin with the idea that we're going to write the best album ever," Hegg states. "We knew we wanted a more aggressive, live feeling to this record but there's no formula behind what we do. We just try to write something that takes us a step further than the last record, and is something that will excite us and our fans. Deceiver Of The Gods is the result."

Deceiver of the Gods was recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK, and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage). The follow-up to the band’s critically adored 2011 Surtur Rising full-length offers up ten maniacally heavy battle hymns rife with the band’s absorbing harmonies and Hegg’s commanding Viking roar. Deceiver of the Gods comes adorned with another outstanding Tom Thiel-created cover portraying a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus, Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”

AMON AMARTH: “Destroyer Of The Universe” Video Premiere On Blank TV

Starting today, fans can check out the new AMON AMARTH music video for the song “Destroyer of the Universe” off the band’s latest release, Surtur Rising. The live video, which is premiering exclusively on BlankTV , was shot on the band’s May 6th stop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Theatre Of Living Arts by director David Brodsky of MyGoodEye (The Black Dahlia Murder, The Devin Townsend Project, Suicide Silence, Municipal Waste, Whitechapel, etc).

Comments guitarist Olavi Mikkonen: “This time around we wanted to catch the energy and atmosphere of a live show, so we simply went for a live video. We look forward to get back to North America in August to continue and fulfill the ‘Evening with’ tour, meanwhile enjoy the video.”

Check out the video HERE and be sure to leave a comment.
In a recap of the band’s last tour in the US, Concertconfessions.com opined: "What is most beautiful about AMON AMARTH's triumph of America is that it’s as pure as the music itself... Friends sharing with friends the magic of the music, that is a true token of success and judging on the reaction from Southern California on Easter Sunday 2011 – AMON AMARTH will have success for a very long time." The Washington Times applauded the band for leaving, “the sold-out crowd awestruck by [their] mastery of melodic death metal," About.comboasted, “I was highly impressed by AMON AMARTH’s stage presentation, which easily rivals that of bands that normally fill arenas," while Skullsnbones.com put it simply: "One band came and conquered Atlanta and their name is AMON AMARTH!"

Don’t forget to catch AMON AMARTH live when the band returns to North America for the second leg of the “An Evening with AMON AMARTH” tour.

Scheduled to kick off in Vancouver on August 4, the trek will pillage its way through 21 cities, including several Canadian venues, and come to a close in Boise, Idaho on September 3. The first set will again feature the band performing the Surtur Rising album in its entirety while the second will offer up mixed bag of tunes from their extensive catalog of Norse-inspired awesomeness.
