Without further ado, I leave you here an interview with a band that deserves to be visited, heard and respected with your support. A guided tour of the latest release of the Italians Brutal Death Metallers ANTROPOFAGUS "Architecture of Lust", the guitar player Francesco Meatgrinder answers the questions ... below.
Nuno
Ribeiro - Hi Band, thank you for has accepted talking to HeavyHardMetalmania on
the eve of the released of the new album "Architecture of Lust" how
are your orgasms? No pain, I hope!!
Francesco Meatgrinder - Our orgasm is
to have been able to return to the scene. Now we are relaxed. It has been hard to
create this record, but we got a good
product, its level is high and we are sure to get amazing feedback.
NR - First
of all, between 2001 with "Alive is Good ... Dead Is Better" and 2011
"Split Torso Trauma" was 10 years, what happened in this time
interval?
FM - Nothing happened
from a musical point of view. We have been dormant, we lived our lives. Void
lives in London, Rigel has become a father, Argento lives in Milan and is very
busy with his work. I had to wait many years to be able to form the band, now
we have a very strong line-up and we are full of new hunger. We waited a lot,
but eventually it will be worth it.
NR - On
April 17 2012 Antropofagus unleashed the new full length album
"Architecture Of Lust” via Comatose Music, a horrible mental trip inspired
by the works of Clive Barker and Benjamin Christensen.
In fact
with masters like these, inspiration should not have missed! "Architecture
Of Lust" will be the band`s magnum opus?
FM - At the
beginning Antropofagus was inspired by splatter gore of 70’s, 80’s. Now our
style has led us in a more elegant and less explicit lyrical research, much
more mental and refined. Death and mental suffering have a big role in our
concept. Everything is inspired by the works of Clive Barker who represents
well our darker side. Nowadays "Architecture Of Lust" is our reference
work, but we will still improve and grow in future.
NR –
Musically In "Architecture Of Lust", their approach has evolved into
a more technical style, but, yet sustains a classic death metal presence. What factors have mostly influenced this "evolution?"
FM - I grew up
with the major influences of the Death metal. I was deeply inspired by
Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Deicide. Today our sound is modern,
but its roots are more in old school music. This is perfect for me, as we
created a right balance for the listener.
NR - As we
hear in the music player above "Exposition of Deformities", without
any sense of pity, explains to us the latent idea track-by-track in
"Architecture Of Lust".
01. Architecture of Lust 04:04
FM - The opener
is the fifth song I’ve composed. I wrote it when I spontaneously started to found typically death metal riffs. The first part
is perfect to open the CD: fast and heavy riffs come like a punch in the
stomach! The second part of the song is indeed full of typical death metal
riffs and rhythms that remind immediately to style of Antropofagus and they
remind No waste of flesh riffs. The final part of the song reveals our older influences
and those bands we have grown up with.
02. Sanguinis Bestiae Solium 03:37
FM - The typical
and classic death metal sound returned permanently and affected the sixth song I’ve
composed. This is the only song that has some classic parts (you can hear the latest
Decapitated ) that are perfect to introduce the solo in a natural way, giving
breathing space to the listener and making him to headbang. Then it starts
again at a fast pace without breath until the end!
03. Demise of the Carnal Principle 03:08
FM - This is the
fourth song I’ve composed, probably along with Blessing..., the most extreme
and modern song off the album. It has steps and sweep mixed to riffs combined
with the typical old-style school, but at the same time it sounds very modern à
la Origin. As for me it’s the most funny song to play, because it’s very direct
and fleshy, especially where Tya duets with the mighty Mariano Somà of Septycal
gorge. It’s a real pleasure for me and I can assure you it will not be just for
me!

04.The Lament Configuration 03:48
FM - Initially,
the song had the working title Lacerating Consumed By Desire. This is the
second song I’ve composed along with Eternity To Devour. It was also on the
promo that came out a few months ago in the split "Torso Trauma". This
song is one of my favorite along with Exposition of Deformities. It has a
discharge of riffs that in my opinion represent the real evolution of what No
waste of flesh Antropofagus rhythms used to be. It has lilting rhythms in
Antropofagus classic style, but it’s not banal. It represents an evolution of my
initial style and the song reminds a bit Matt Sotelo in “... and time begins”.
A really great song.
05. Exposition of Deformities 03:40
FM - The seventh
song that I composed is my favorite one. It’s totally inspired, one of the best Antropofagus’
songs ever!
06. Eternity to Devour 02:48
FM - Eternity is
the first song that I composed after a very long absence to practicing guitar. I
did not touch my guitar for 8 years. At the beginning it has been hard for me
to regain my fingers’mobility and reacquire my way to play. I had to change the
plectrum’s setting because of the speed of the riffs I was writing. The album
is played at 280 BPM, it is very tiring especially the drum parts. Eternity is
the song with the best riffs and the riffs are very well assembled. There are
parts more fast and other parts more catchy. I think this is a very good song.
07. Sadistic Illusive Puritanism 03:50
FM - This song
will surprise many people, no one expects a such song in an album of
Antropofagus. It’s the eighth song composed by me. It has been deliberately
created in order to devote itself solely to the heaviness. The click was in
fact drastically reduced, and we got the result that exactly I wanted! Massive!
08. Blessing Upon My Redemption 03:44
FM - OMG! …This
is the third song I’ve composed. I have to admit I have even struggled
especially in the second part. The riffs are really difficult to play. I have deliberately put it at the end because
I think that aside the outro the album had to end in a big way like as its
start. The song is divided into 2 parts because it was composed by me in 2
different times. Fortunately it works very well and it’s powerful! In my
opinion the lilting riff that unites the two parts is one of the most beautiful
of the album, because its simplicity is its strength. I think that often the
simple things are the better when they come out spontaneously.
09. Det helgerån av häxor (outro) 05:35
FM - I thought a
lot about using the outro or not. I wanted to create an atmosphere like when
you enter the hell. The chains and the hooks described by Tya in this concept had
to find the door into the path of no return, the place where you explode at the
peak of pain. From a technical point of view it is very easy, but it is able to
create the perfect atmosphere to conclude the concept, making us totally
satisfied with the work.
NR - Now
talking a little about the band's live performance, "Antropofagus"
has played with big Metal names like Deicide, Belphegor, Sinister, Pestilence,
Shining and many more.
Besides the
concept of a music / message well planned what can we see in a live performance
of the band? Are there dates scheduled for soon?
FM - We had
great experiences so far, and they helped us to improve ourselves as musicians.
We are currently planning the release party, and then a series of dates in
Italy. Of course we’d like also to play in Europe and US to promote the record.
NR - 1999
`s Full-length "No Waste Of Flesh" is now Considered a "cult album"
by the brutal freaks worldwide. In my opinion "Architecture Of Lust"
will be even better, also a work more technical and more suited to modern times
and the 21st century. I can only thank you for your availability and wish you
the "eternal darkness."
FM - We thank
you so much for your kind words, for the consideration and for the space you
have given us!
