Prog-Rockers Fen Unveil Shocking New Video for "The Glove" Latest Video from the Acclaimed Ripple Music Album, Of Losing Interest

The ending will surprise and shock you.
The video may even have you talking and sharing.

Following on the heels of their groundbreaking marionette video for "Miracle" off the Trails out of Gloom album, Vancouver progressive rockers FEN are now set to release the latest video for "The Glove" from their fifth and latest album Of Losing Interest.

About the video, main Fen man Doug Harrison says, "I came up with the video idea based on an experience in a public men's room where a guy came out of the stall and wanted my help in putting a white, woolen glove on his hand, which appeared to have something wrong with it. I didn't know if it was a genuine request for help or a trick to get me in a vulnerable position. After I wrote the script, I showed it to the other guys in Fen but no one wanted to be in the video. I also showed it to the guys at our label Ripple Music to see if they would do it. They were apprehensive as well. The two main actors ended up being friends of friends,  guys who didn't mind tussling around in a public washroom on camera while patrons from the ice rink came in to do their business."

See the video below, and also catch "Miracle"

FEN's heaviest and most technical album to date, Of Losing Interest revisits the band's harder edged metallic past while retaining the melodic sensibilities that made Trails Out of Gloom so alluring. Co-Produced by Mike Southworth, his fourth with the band, Of Losing Interest is a contrast of technical virtuosity layered against warm, low-end organics.

FEN: Live Video at Depressive Fest Moscow 2013

Atmospheric Black Metallers FEN has released a new live video with part of their performing at Depressive Fest Moscow 2013, April 2013. The video can be seen via YouTube channel of  Patricia Thomas, General Manager of the band and is courtesy of the YouTube user Канал пользователя Ilufus.

Drawing their inspiration from the desolate Fen region in England, The Watcher (guitars and vocals) and Grungyn (bass and vocals), formed FEN in 2006, and today’s lineup includes Derwydd on drums. The band’s sound has been variously described as post-black metal, shoegaze and progressive, but however you choose to label it, the music of Fen manages to meld the cold rage of Black Metal with introspection and reflection to create a distinctive, other-worldly atmosphere. “Dustwalker” the band’s third full-length album was released in January on Code666, with whom the band recently signed a deal for a further three albums.

Prog Rockers FEN Announce FREE T-Shirt Give Away! Time To Make Room For New Merch!

Vancouver progressive rockers FEN have announced they will be giving away FREE band T-shirts to make room for new merchandise as they encourage their fans to share their tunes and increase their social media presence.

The band has commented the following:
"Dear Grumps,
We're clearing out our merch closet and using it as a shameless excuse to pull a few more listeners out of the woodwork. We'll give away 10 T-shirts if we reach 1000 likes on our facebook page: www.facebook.com/fenmusic. After that, we'll give away 5 shirts for every additional 500 likes until supplies are gone. The selection will be made on April 12th.

And how will we make the crucial decision of who gets the shirts?

We're still sorting that part out. We're considering a kind of ritualistic monkey dance that will involve the four of us uprooting house plants then hurling our feces at the computer monitor. Whichever names get covered up on our facebook page, we'll contact those people and mail the shirts to their homes.
Shamlessly yours,
Doug, Jeff, Sam & Nando"

In additional news, Fen recently released their latest music video 'A Long Line Final' from their fifth and latest album 'Of Losing Interest' released last summer via indie label Ripple Music to follow up their fourth release 'Trails Out Of Gloom'.

Prog Rockers FEN Post New Video 'Of Losing Interest'

Vancouver progressive rockers FEN have posted a video for their title track from their fifth and latest album 'Of Losing Interest' released last summer via indie label Ripple Music to follow up their fourth release 'Trails Out Of Gloom'.

"The song 'Of Losing Interest' broke new ground for us. We didn't try to shape it into some convoluted or grandiose structure. We just let the riff be a riff and do its job and we kept the dynamics fairly steady throughout. At one point I considered titling the song, The Grump, based on the fact that the lyrics are from the perspective of someone who detests social interactions and does what he can to either cut them short or avoid them altogether. Overall, the video is a lofi attempt to reveal what might be inside his head." comments vocalist / guitarist Doug Harrison.

The video can be seen below.

In January of 1998, in the mountain shadows of Nelson, British Columbia, a creatorship emerged called Fen. The road has been long for this dark-leaning band, which after more than a decade of obscurity, was finally ushered into the prog and metal fan’s psyche. This occurred in 2010, when Fen signed to California label Ripple music and released their fourth album Trails Out Of Gloom. The album garnered impressive reviews from bloggers and print magazines worldwide, including mention in the UK’s Classic Rock magazine and a perfect 16/16 score from the US authority on prog: Progressions Magazine. To follow up this attention, in May of 2011, the management of UK/Israeli prog veterans Blackfield invited Fen to open for them on the Vancouver stop of their North American tour.

To date, Fen’s music has sold in more than fifteen countries, and with the help of dedicated bloggers, two AAA-radio campaigns, and a music video for the single “Miracle,” the band’s following continues to expand. In surprising contrast to the dark nature of Fen’s music, their songs have been placed on HGTV (Home and Garden Television) and Animal Planet’s, From Underdog to Wonderdog, among others. The song “Through the Night” will soon be available on the video game RockBand.

Fen has performed at clubs and festivals throughout BC, and in the summer of 2011, took part in the Forest Symphony at UBC’s Pacific Spirit Park. Fen’s fifth album, Of Losing Interest, will be available in August 2012, and is a return to the heavier aspects of the bands sound. It is their second release under the Ripple Music label, and it brings together a band line up first assembled in 1999.

“Dustwalker”,which is FEN’s third full-length album, was released this month on the Code666 label to almost universal critical acclaim from both critics and fans. FEN’s style of Black Metal has been variously described as “progressive”, “atmospheric”, “post-rock” and “shoegaze”. But however you choose to describe it, the sound created by the trio of The Watcher (guitars and vocals), Grungyn (bass and vocals) and Derwydd (drums) is hauntingly and unmistakeably FEN. It is a sound and an atmosphere that is uniquely influenced by the desolate, windswept region of England known as the Fens and conjures up feelings of isolation, abandonment, loss and yearning.

FEN Debuts “Consequence” From Upcoming Album “Dustwalker”

Progressive Black Metallers FEN have debuted a track from their upcoming album “Dustwalker”. Set for release on Code666 on the 21st of January, “Dustwalker” will be the third full-length album from the three-piece whose line up comprises The Watcher (guitars and vocals), Grungyn (bass and vocals) and Derwydd (drums). “Consequence”, the opening track from the album, can be heard on the band’s SoundCloud page and below.

FEN’s music fits into the Black Metal genre, but the exact categorisation is hard to define, having been variously described as “progressive”, “atmospheric”, “post-rock” and “shoegaze”. Drawing their name and inspiration from the desolate, windswept, other-worldly Fen region of the UK from whence founder members The Watcher and Grungyn hail, there is no doubt that the band’s music fits into all the afore-mentioned categories, and more besides, to form a unique sound that is hauntingly and unmistakeably FEN. As The Watcher recently commented about the new album: “If “Epoch” embodies a lonely walk into the deepening twilight of the fens in Autumn, then “Dustwalker” represents the cold, sharp greys of a bleak winter’s dawn. An expression of isolation, abandonment and a gradual detachment from the material realm, this album is a starker, more direct representation of the Fen sound."

FEN have previously released two albums on Code666 – their debut full length album “The Malediction Fields” in 2009 and the follow up“Epoch” in 2011, and the band recently announced that they had re-signed with the label for the release of a further three albums following the release of “Dustwalker”. “Dustwalker” will be available in both CD format, and as a limited edition Clambox which will feature a bonus track and include a pendant with the band’s distinctive logo, which is currently available to pre-order. Artwork for the album is by Grungyn.
Track listing for “Dustwalker” as follows:
I. Consequence
II. Hands of Dust
III. Spectre
IV. Reflections
V. Wolf Sun
VI. The Black Sound
VII. Walking the Crowpath
VIII. Epilogue (special edition bonus track)

DETAILS AND ARTWORK FOR UPCOMING FEN ALBUM REVEALED

Details of the third full-length album from UK Progressive Black Metallers FEN have been announced today.  The seven-track album “Dustwalker” is set for release on the 21st of January on Code666 Records, and will be appear in both CD format and as a limited edition Clambox which will feature a bonus track and include a pendant with the band’s distinctive logo.  Artwork for the album is by the FEN’s bass player Grungyn.  Track listing for “Dustwalker” as below.
FEN was formed in 2006 by The Watcher (guitars and vocals), Grungyn (bass and vocals) and drummer Theutus.  The latter would later leave the band, to be replaced on drums by Derwydd.

Setting out to meld the cold rage that runs through Black Metal with the more introspective and reflective emotions found in the post-rock/shoegaze genres, FEN was able to evoke, through music, a vision of the Fens, an area in England noted for its desolate, windswept landscapes.  Like the region after which the band is named, FEN’s music has an almost other worldly aura that speaks of loss and unrequited yearning.

“Dustwalker” will be FEN’s third album on Code666, who previously released the band’s debut full-length “The Malediction Fields” in 2009 and “Epoch” in 2011.  FEN recently announced that they had re-signed with the Code666, a sub label of Aural Music, for a further three albums after “Dustwalker”.  Commenting on “Dustwalker “, frontman The Watcher had this to say: “If “Epoch” embodies a lonely walk into the deepening twilight of the fens in Autumn, then “Dustwalker” represents the cold, sharp greys of a bleak winter’s dawn.  An expression of isolation, abandonment and a gradual detachment from the material realm, this album is a starker, more direct representation of the Fen sound."

“As Buried Spirits Stir” from FEN’s “Malediction Fields” album can be heard below.

I. Consequence
II. Hands of Dust
III. Spectre
IV. Reflections
V. Wolf Sun
VI. The Black Sound
VII. Walking the Crowpath
VIII. Epilogue (special edition bonus track)

FEN ANNOUNCES ALBUM, RENEWS CONTRACT WITH CODE666/AURAL MUSIC

UK Progressive Black Metallers FEN have not only just finished work on their third full-length album, they have also renewed their contract with Code666 Records for the release of a further three albums.  Formed initially as a studio project in 2006, FEN draws its inspiration from the windswept, desolate landscape of England’s Fen region after which the band was named.  By fusing the cold rage of Black Metal with more reflective influences, FEN succeeds in creating a deeply intense, atmospheric, almost otherworldly sound, redolent of loss and melancholic yearning.
More information about FEN’s third full-length album, which is titled “Dustwalker” and is a follow up to “The Malediction Fields” which appeared in 2009 and “Epoch” released in 2011, will be available shortly.   FEN frontman The Watcher had this to say about the new contract: “We have been happy with the way we’ve been treated by Code666 in respect of the first three albums, and were impressed by the enthusiasm that the label has always shown for FEN and the faith they have placed in us, so it was logical for us to continue a relationship that was obviously working well”.
FEN is set to appear at the three-day Winter is Coming Festival in New London, Connecticut on the 13th October, marking the band’s first appearance in the USA.  Their next European appearance will be at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem, Netherlands on the 27 October.  More information about FEN can be found on the band’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/fenofficial

FEN SET TO PLAY FIRST U.S. DATE

U.K. Progressive Black Metallers FEN will play their first ever date in North America on the 13th October when they appear at the three-day Winter is Coming Festival which is taking place between the 12thand 14th October in New London, Connecticut.   EVOKEN, VITAL REMAINS, AGALLOCH and SIG:AR:TYR are amongst the 23 bands who will play at the festival, which this year is dedicated to the memory of WOODS OF YPRES frontman David Gold.
Formed in 2006 as a studio project by Grungyn, Theutus and The Watcher, and inspired by the windswept, desolate landscape of England’s Fen region, the band set out to fuse the cold rage of Black Metal with more reflective influences, creating a deeply intense and atmospheric sound which speaks of loss and melancholic yearning.  Quickly realising that a studio project would be too restricting, FEN soon started to perform live, and an offer from Northern Silence Productions resulted in the release of the “Ancient Sorrow” EP in 2007.
A three-album deal with Code666 Records followed and FEN’s debut full-length album “The Malediction Fields” appeared in 2009, followed by the sophomore full-length “Epoch” in 2011. With today’s line up of The Watcher on vocals and guitars, Grungyn on vocals and bass and newest member Derwydd on drums, the band is currently putting the finishing touches to their new album. FEN’s next European appearance will be at the Aurora Infernalis Festival in Arnhem, Netherlands on the 27 October.  More information about FEN can be found on the band’s Facebook page.

Stereogum.com Premieres "Towards the Shores of the End" from UK's FEN

Stereogum.com is premiering a new track from atmospheric UK black metallers FEN. "Towards the Shores of the End" is the title track from FEN's split album with Sweden's DE ARMA, which will be released on February 15th through Nordvis Produktion. One of four tracks contributed to the split by FEN, the song is representative of the band's superbly composed dark and melancholic black metal that dives into fathomless oceans and sweeps endless horizons.

You can listen to "Towards the Shores of the End" at this location.

Praise for Towards Shores Of The End:

"This split is another must have for fans of the more progressive end of the black metal genre. It's another stunning release that is sure to end up on many people's best of lists and while splits aren't typically regarded as highly as full lengths, Towards the Shores of the end deserves to be."  - CosmoGaming.com

"A captivating release, showcasing 2 highly atmospherically charged bands, each different in its style, but both none the less electrifying." - Battlehelm

"Fen...dense, meandering and melodic black/dark metal with post-whatever overtones, perfect to dream and drift along with. To that extent, De Arma makes for a great companion, as they perform with a similar, evocative atmosphere that differs primarily in the more rasped vocals and traditional streaming of black metal currents in the guitar lines. Towards the Shores of the End is a good release, showcasing two good bands."
 - From the Dust Returned [Rating: 7/10]

"Why Fen isn't being namedropped in the same instances as Wolves in the Throne Room or Alcest is beyond me.  Heavy on the Goth/Black Metal vibe that does wonders for the whole affair. In no way a new Katatonia but give it time and we might see this one lurking up there to push the old masters of their pedestal. Frankly, I feel like I'm cheating myself of a good listening time writing this review."  - Currents-Online

"The seven tracks featured within are magnificent and ambitious in scope. both entities bring their own distinct brand of melancholy and sheer desolation to the proceedings. Over 50 minutes of grim, magnificent artistry from two of the very best from the Black Metal underground."- Highwire Daze

"Fen is clearly continuing their musical journey with these 4 songs. I am even more excited for Epoch after hearing this split. Along with the Agalloch influence, there is the ever-growing progressive rock and post-punk/goth influence. [De Arma] produce solid atmospheric black metal with a great overall feel which is definitely a good compliment to Fen's half. The riffs are a good mix of the standard trem-picked Darkthrone-inspired rhetoric and honest, creative black metal." - The Inarguable Webzine

FEN

An expression of loss and melancholic yearning, the primary goal with Fen is to draw the listener into a windswept and desolate landscape, bereft of hope. The band was born in early 2006 when Grungyn, Theutus and The Watcher came together to embark on a project that fused the cold rage of black metal with more reflective influences from the post-rock/shoegaze genres. Initially intended as a studio project, the three members quickly found a rich seam of creative inspiration and in the summer of 2006 recorded three songs that would end up as the Ancient Sorrow EP.

The three members began to embark on a series of live shows in 2007 and during this period, Draugluin joined the ranks. In early 2007, the band were contacted by Northern Silence Productions who expressed interest in releasing the Ancient Sorrow EP on both CD and vinyl. This offer was gratefully accepted and in October 2007, Ancient Sorrow was released to great acclaim within the underground. During this period Fen played shows with key acts such as Agalloch, Skyforger and Negura Bunget, earning a reputation for intense and emotional performances. The band swiftly caught the attention of Code666 Records who signed the band for the release of their debut album, The Malediction Fields which was released in January 2009 and swiftly garnered very positive reviews.

Early 2010 saw Æðelwalh replace Draugluin on keyboards & backing vocals. Armed with this latest line-up, the band spent the Spring touring with Negura Bunget before commencing the recording of their second album Epoch.

DE ARMA

Formed as a idea in 2009 by A. (Also known from the now-defunct Armagedda and Whirling) and later developed to a side-project, De Arma translates to "The Poor; The Poor Ones" and its music is built upon dreaming, soundscapes and atmospheres with varying vocal performances.
