MOONSPELL talks of the negative aspects of social networks

Portuguese gothic/black metal act Moonspell, has started a new web blog series covering the inner workings of the band and has posted the following:

"Welcome to the brand new Moonspell notebook, Under the Moonspell. With the launch of this notebook (lacking a better term), the band intends to bring you a litlle bit closer and inside the Moonspell's world and routines, allowing to see and learn more about its members and activities, in a more "human" fashion. There is more than meets the eye when you are in a band and, somewhat, a lot of important information and events, do not translate into the fans, or gets to them corrupted and for all the wrong reasons.

"As most of you might know, Fernando (Ribeiro, lead singer), his wife and even his son, were anonymously attacked in Facebook by some infamous Portuguese haters. A couple of pages were created to mock and try to demolish their personality and things got uglier when these trolls got their more than deserved answer. Goes without saying that, perhaps, no reaction should ever take place in these occasions, but we all know that is easier said than done. After all, social networking should be used positively and it's only an act of pure cowardice to campaign against bands and their members. Especially, when anonymous haters cross the line into the bands' personal life. Everybody would agree that the fact of having a pulic persona should not serve as an excuse for abuse. Also, as the German philosopher Immanuel Kant (and many other greats) once theorized, freedom can only be a fruitful experience when rules of engagement are applied, otherwise one can easily fall in anarchic disrespect as happened to many people we have learned to like and respect.

"Internet and social networking can not dehumanize us, quite an opposite goal was, most likely, behind the expansion of such powerful communication tools like the ones we possess now. But are people truly communicating or are they are now out of control, drunk with the power of opinion?

"The Under the Moonspell notebook intends nothing but to get you closer to a world which is often misunderstood and wrongly evaluated. What Moonspell intends is to bring people together and to share with their fans their reality, what it takes before going on a stage, the highs, the lows, the hopes and the fears. There will be room for stories that will surprise you, anger you and make you understand better some of the bands'choices. You are free to comment and share your thoughts, but haters and attention deficitaires will not be welcomed and are encouraged to leave us alone, not to spoil a honest dialogue with the Moonspell fan base which is going stronger and wiser since 20 years.

"All texts will be written in English, and whenever appropriated if there is a Portuguese text, it will be folowed by a reliable translation.

"Once again we bid you welcome to the Under the Moonspell notebook, in hope you'll enjoy our words, our spirit, our life.

"Hear the howling,

Moonspell: "White Skies" Video Teaser

Portuguese extreme band Moonspell  have posted a new video teaser for "White Skies" which can be seen below. "Alpha Noir/Omega White" was released on April 27, 2012 via Napalm Records.  The video for "Lickanthrope" can be seen at this location.

Moonspell returns to the scene with what might be the most important album ever to be released by this legendary Portuguese metal band. With a renewed focus, they have risen to a new level so as to reclaim their throne as the leading European dark metal band. "Alpha Noir" is a nine-track outburst that shows us a much more incendiary band than in the past. With an avalanche of memorable guitar work, deeply rooted in the thrash metal of legends, Moonspell perfectly combines it with their own brand of Southern black metal, which they have been crafting since their groundbreaking debut offering: "Wolfheart". The special edition will also include a second CD, "Alpha Noir's" remarkable counterpart "Omega White". It follows a more atmospheric path, delivering epic and catchy songs in the vein of gothic rock icons, such as Sisters of Mercy and Type o Negative. Torn between two worlds, the Alpha - with tracks like the savage "Lickanthrope" (to be featured in the band's first video clip), the majestic title track, or the epic closing "Grandstand" - and the Omega - with "White Skies", the sensual "Herodisiac", or the heartbreaking "Whiteomega"- make this release a bulletproof double album to present to the band's hordes of avid moon gazers. Produced by Tue Madsen and arranged by Benny Richter, "Alpha Noir" will take the world by storm. It is a genuine release by a legendary act, who never hid in the bushes waiting for their musical style to regain popularity, but rather kept their heads proudly above the water, while always working to achieve greatness. "Alpha Noir": we want a new world! And nobody can afford to be left behind in the coming of this new lunar age.

Dark times are coming… INTO DARKNESS TOUR 2012 with MOONSPELL

INTO DARKNESS TOUR 2012 w/ PAIN, MOONSPELL, SWALLOW THE SUN and LAKE OF TEARS

The gaping, sinister and black abyss has many faces – just like its musical offspring…for the second time, the INTO DARKNESS tour will crawl upon Europe! In time for the dawning of black winter days, a live package will start hitting clubs November 9th and boasting a line up full of dark gems of the widest stylistic variety: industrial metal, gothic tunes, melancholic doom – this tour has it all!

MOONSPELL from Portugal had their breakthrough in 1996 with “Irreligious” and on tour with TYPE O NEGATIVE. Now they`ll crown the INTO DARKNESS tour with sophistication, catchiness and sonar vastness! Call it gothic metal, call it avant-garde dark metal – MOONSPELL are guaranteed to make heads turn with their upcoming double release “Alpha Noir” and “Omega White”!

Swedish legends PAIN featuring maestro Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY) will fill the headliner position, and this act can truly make the dead dance! Morbid lyrics meet stomping industrial beats and wicked metal guitars: a band to make every goth, EBM freak and metalhead in the audience happy with evergreens such as ‘Eleanor Rigby‘, ‘Follow Me‘ or ‘Shut Your Mouth‘! 2011 saw the release of “You Only Live Twice” and PAIN are renowned to spr ead a heavy and somber atmosphere live especially.

Some like to lump them into the doom category, but Finns SWALLOW THE SUN rather see themselves as blacksmiths of melancholic metal. Recently they issued “Emerald Forest And The Blackbird” and made it clear that they are unmatched with their concoction of slow motion sound, depressing melodies, nightmarish atmosphere and a bit of death metal heaviness. LAKE OF TEARS on the other hand seem to change styles with every album, but one thing remains the same: the sheer darkness lurking behind all the highly melodic compositions of the Swedish veterans. Grandiose albums like “Illwill” (2009) melt goth sounds with death metal and catchiness.
An exciting and varied line up that will haunt European clubs in November – check www.intodarkness.eu regularly for updates and your very own INTO DARKNESS tickets!

Moonspell - know the synopsis to the fantastic upcoming video!

Moonspell has issued the following announcement about releasing a new music video off the band`s upcoming "Alpha Noir" album:

"Lickanthrope will be the first video clip to come out of the Alpha Noir album. It will be directed by Filipe Melo, who worked with the band on the I will see you in my dreams videoclip, recorded ten years ago. The shooting will be made in Nandufe, Tondela, in the central region of Portugal.

The synopsis by the director, Filipe Melo:

Little red riding hood enters a bar,in an abandoned house amidst the woods. In this bar, the regulars are not your average kind of people- it's a place of vice, where a pack of wolves and other unearthly creatures find solace. Moonspell are just another part of the varied local entertainment. However when things go wild we will see that the band isn't just what meets the eye.

In a cross between the pagan Portuguese folklore and a tribute to the classic Hammer movies this videoclip will bring out not only the ferocious intensity of this song but will have its place in Portuguese Film history as the first werewolf transformation ever made in Portugal.

The videoclip features also several local Theatre and cultural groups, Portuguese actors and a special appearance by the very own Suicide Girls Portugal, in a task force which will blow your mind.

The video will be premiered in Moonspell's/Napalm Records youtube channels as well as selected TV shows and online pages. Beware the wolves at night, beware the lunar light!"

For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
-Rudyard Kipling
